More than ten kilos of marijuana were located during security inspections by elements of the National Guard (NG) and canine binomials in parcel companies located in six states of the country.
The seizures were carried out in the shipping areas of the parcel companies thanks to the detection of canine pairs specialized in the detection of narcotics, firearms and paper money, which showed positive alerts.
The states where the seizures took place were Guanajuato, Coahuila, Querétaro, Zacatecas and San Luis Potosí. The total weight of drugs seized in the entities yielded almost nine kilos.
The illicit material was rudimentarily packed inside resealable plastic bags that were placed in cardboard boxes. The marijuana wrappers were destined for homes in León, Guanajuato; Gómez Palacio, Durango; Cajeme, Sonora and Tijuana, Baja California and the city of Aguascalientes.
The largest shipment was detected at the premises of a company located at the “Ponciano Arriaga” International Airport in San Luis Potosí, where a canine pair located two boxes containing a total of approximately five kilos of weed, which were intended to be sent to Aguascalientes.
Meanwhile, in two actions, in the city of Morelia, Michoacán, GN personnel seized about a kilo of possible marijuana from courier companies, where they located cardboard boxes that expelled a strong aroma.
The possible narcotic was made available to the Attorney General's Office (FGR) in each entity, where the authorities will accurately confirm the type of grass and exact weight.
Almost a year after the historic ruling of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) that lifted the ban on recreational marijuana use, recreational cannabis remains in limbo because no self-use permits have been granted nor has Congress legislated on the subject.
Human rights activists and defenders linked to the consumption of the plant agree that there is no political will to regulate consumption.
This is because, while many bills have passed through Congress and the Senate in recent years and have been given prompt resolution, with marijuana the situation is completely different.
“The behaviors are clear: if they wanted to legislate, since 2018 they could have done so with one hand on their waists. They have had time, options to dialogue, to review, to refine, they have had,” Juan Francisco Torres Landa, founder of the Mexican Society of Responsible and Tolerant Self-Consumption (SMART), told the agency Efe.
