On April 9, Camila Osorio was eliminated in the semifinals of the WTA 250 in Bogotá by Brazilian tennis player Laura Pigossi in two sets with partials 7-5 and 7-6 (1). The tennis player at a press conference assured that throughout the week she dragged a muscle problem in the hamstring of her left leg, which did not allow her to be in full condition during the competition.
In the dialogue with the media, the cucuteña confirmed that the injury suffered during Indian Wells failed to heal 100%, so its performance in the Colsanitas Cup was affected. This was why Osorio Serrano had to end the match requesting medical assistance and modifying his serve.
“I played all week with a pain in my leg, trying to take care of it with the physio. But I'm leaving with how positive it was to reach the semifinals (...) I have to go to the doctor to get an MRI, because the trouble is still there. The muscle lasts more or less to recover 21 days, but I didn't give it that time. God forbid it's not so serious, or anything bad,” she explained after being eliminated.
Now, this Sunday, in an interview with RCN Mundo, María Camila Osorio confessed that it was irresponsible to have participated in the WTA 250 in Bogotá with an injury, which did not allow her to do her best in the capital's competition.
“I'm much better, recovering. It's been tough months because I've had a lot of injuries but I hope I'm well enough to compete in the European tour. Another time I would have retired. It was a bit irresponsible to continue playing but the truth is that I stayed on the court more because of the audience that came to cheer me up, who paid their ticket, who supported me at every point. That was the reason why I finished my match despite being injured.”
The tennis player, who is in her hometown recovering explained that: “Every time I come to Cúcuta I have to get to do therapy. It's hard to stop, come back, stop coming back. Not only does the body suffer, but also the mental part. I have learned from this and I want to make the best possible way to the tour of Europe. It's a learning. I am traveling with my fitness coach, I do injury prevention”,
On the other hand, the next Maria Camila competitions will be in Europe, however, her return to the courts will depend on the exams that will be carried out in the next few days to determine the degree of her injury and also to know the length of disability. The final of the WTA 250 in Bogotá will be between the Brazilian Laura Pigossi and the German Tatjana María, both from the qualifying table.
