The popular singer Max Castro paid tribute to Martina Portocarrero with a video he posted on his social media. In this recording you can see both playing the song Flor de Retama. “Teacher Martina left, but her singing will continue to flourish for eternity,” the musician wrote.

Jhon Andía, the musician who became known for performing the song Flor de Retama in the 2015 edition of La Voz, mourned the death of the folk singer and recalled the moments she lived next to her after the presentation they shared.
“I have a pleasant memory with you, teacher. I was showing up at an event and when you came down from the stage you welcomed me with open arms to give me a hug saying 'that's my cholo, big my cholo lindo' without having met us. A great performer, teacher and researcher of our music who leaves us a great legacy. Rest in peace, teacher,” he wrote.
