The Colombian label at the Latin American Music Awards fell to the antioquian reggaeton artist Carolina Navarro Giraldo, better known by her stage name Karol G, who was a winner in several of the categories of that massive event.
The 'bichota' took home six statuettes that confirm her successful career in the urban genre. The most acclaimed by the audience was the prize that won the song 'El Makinon', in collaboration with Mariah Angeliq, who received the award, given that Karol G did not attend the ceremony.
La paisa was also awarded for her most recent album “KG0516″, which won 'the crown' as the album of the year in urban genre. Other categories in which the Colombian won were the best female artist and best singer in the urban genre.
When Mariah Angeliq went on to receive Latin Music, she thanked Karol G and was stunned after her victory at the international music awards. “I didn't really expect to win, so I'm a little surprised,” acknowledged the American interpreter.
It should be noted that Karol G was not the only Colombian who was victorious in the awards held at the Michelob Ultra Arena sports venue in Las Vegas, in the United States. Paisa singer Sebastián Yatra was also awarded a trophy for his song Couple of the Year, which received the prize in the Favorite Pop Song category.
Bad Bunny, also in absentia, won five awards that included favorite male artist and single of the year for “Dákiti”, with Jhay Cortez, who also won favorite urban song. The song achieved an unprecedented milestone in 2020 when it simultaneously debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.
Christian Nodal, for his part, received four trophies, including three in the Mexican regional music categories and a special one previously announced: the Extraordinary Evolution Award, awarded to a young artist who succeeds in accelerating success.
“Up Mexico!” , said the singer upon receiving it, thanking “with all my heart to all the people who have made these five years of professional career pass so quickly”. Later, when he accepted another of his awards, he expressed himself “very proud to belong to this new generation of artists” of the genre.
The Legend Award, another special recognition, went to the Mexican Lupita D'Alessio for her more than five decades of career. The nicknamed “Leona Dormida” received the honor from “El Puma” José Luis Rodríguez in the midst of a standing ovation. He thanked his parents, from whom he said he had learned everything he knows, as well as his children and his team.
“To Mexico, which saw me grow up,” added the interpreter of “I want to never see you again” and “My heart is a gypsy”, drawing another loud applause from those present. “To Latin America and the United States, thank you very much for that affection, for keeping me alive for almost 52 years” of artistic career.
Both sang during the evening in two of the most prominent numbers. Meanwhile, the award for new artist of the year went to Argentine sensation María Becerra.
