More than three hours of traffic congestion and long lines of vehicles were recorded in the vicinity of the Monitor oval, in La Molina, as a result of access restricted by the overpass works carried out in the area by the Metropolitan Municipality of Lima (MML).
Vehicular chaos has occurred since 4:00 p.m. in much of the lane that comes from the Paseo de la República Express Road to La Molina, however, the parallel road has fewer vehicles, Canal N reported since the fact.
The units remained static for several minutes and progressed little by little, making endless queues, causing discomfort to drivers and passengers who were slow to drive to their destination.
“I come from San Isidro and it takes me more than an hour to pass, the alternate roads are stuck. The traffic is horrible, to get to La Molina it takes more than two hours,” said a passenger on the spot.
Overpass works were the cause of traffic
It was reported that congestion is related to the construction of an overpass in the Monitor oval. As a result, during rush hour, traffic jams and discomfort are generated in drivers, passengers and pedestrians
Recently, the MML has reported that the aforementioned work is 96% complete and would be delivered by the end of April. This new structure seeks to benefit the districts of Ate, Surco, La Molina, San Borja, San Luis and neighboring jurisdictions.
It is also expected that this work will allow 85% of the current vehicle load of the Monitor oval to move quickly along the viaduct, leaving the lower part free for the crossings between Javier Prado Este, Las Palmeras and El Golf Los Incas avenues.
