President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) said Friday that he will hold a meeting in the municipality of San Juan de Ulúa, Veracruz, with businessmen and governors, as well as with the heads of some secretariats and with Ken Salazar, ambassador of the United States.
The objective will be to discuss the development of the southeast and in particular the Plan for the Interoceanic Corridor of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, which includes Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chiapas and Tabasco.
The meeting will be attended by Marcelo Ebrard, Augusto López, Luis Crescencio Sandoval and Rafael Durán, secretaries of Foreign Affairs, Government, Defense and the Navy respectively; and Cuitláhuac Garcia, Alejandro Murat, Rutilio Escandón and Carlos Merino, governors of the entities that comprise the development plan.
American and Canadian businessmen will also be there, along with Ambassador Ken Salazar, to discuss the development agenda that is planned to be implemented in the area.
The Plan consists of the development of nearly a thousand kilometers of railway tracks, of which the section of the southern border with Guatemala to Ixtepec is being built, and the modernization of the Guatemala-Ixtepec and Coatzacoalcos-Palenque sections will soon be put out to tender to rehabilitate the highway.
The president said that just as a company is being created for the Mayan Train that will depend on the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the Isthmus Train project will be managed by the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR).
The infrastructure will consist of the Ports of Salina Cruz, Coatzacoalcos, Nuevo Chiapas, a branch from Chontalpa to Dos Bocas, as well as the creation of 10 industrial plants throughout the corridor. However, the president mentioned that he will first coordinate with the other secretariats before the Plan is taken over by SEMAR.
