The rainy season in the country continues to generate havoc in different regions of Colombia. Ideam announced that the Magdalena river channel is on red alert due to the increase in the level of its waters and some municipalities in the department of Antioquia are on alert due to possible floods that could arise from this situation.
The municipalities of Puerto Berrío, Puerto Nare and Puerto Triunfo, which are located in the Magdalena Medio subregion, are at risk from possible floods due to the increase in the Magdalena riverbed. Risk management agencies warn citizens to be aware of possible risks that could arise due to rainfall.
In an interview with Blu Radio, the mayor of Puerto Berrío, Gustavo Ernesto Medina, said that measures are being taken to avoid affecting the population. The local president stated that, “we always carry out specific surveillance in the neighborhood La Milla #2, in the Los Naranjos neighborhood and in the Villas del Coral neighborhood, which are the ones that indicate the possibilities that they will affect some population”

On the other hand, Javier Aristides Guerra, mayor of Puerto Triunfo, also spoke to the media and said that they are preparing for the possible flooding in the Magdalena river, however, they are also concerned about what may happen to the Cocorná river, since it “floods us a lot around 200, 300 families in the Cocorná station, the river goes into all those houses in that sector”.
Local authorities, as well as risk care groups such as firefighters, civil defense and the Red Cross, are constantly monitoring and river inspections to avoid risks to citizens and measures such as evacuating the population in the event of a possible flood of the Magdalena River must be taken.

Ideam, for its part, recently reported that “considerable increase in cloudiness and precipitation in the north and east of the country with rains and electric shocks in the departments of Guajira, Magdalena, as well as Vichada, Arauca, Casanare, areas of Meta, Guainía, Guaviare and sectors of eastern Amazonas (...) Rainfall also occurs in Córdoba, Sucre and Bolivar. Lower intensity rainfall in sectors of western Antioquia, the coffee region, Santanderes, Boyacá, Cundinamarca, Tolima and central and southern areas of the Pacific region”.
The department of Antioquia has been one of the hardest hit in the middle of the winter wave. With this death, 22 people have already lost their lives due to the emergency due to the rains.
