Álvaro Gutiérrez was fired by Universitario de Deportes after the hard rout at the hands of Alianza Lima at Monumental and immediately Jorge Araujo was appointed interim coach of the club 'crema'. Jean Ferrari, administrator of the 'U', explained the reasons for these decisions.
“We brought a coach with good background but it didn't work out as we all expected. We had a conversation with Álvaro after this classic. The results in the classic mark a line”, began the manager of the entity 'merengue' in dialogue with RPP.
Ferrari also revealed why it was inclined to cut the link with the Uruguayan. “The conversation with Álvaro Gutierrez was on Monday. That's where he shows me that he didn't feel that strong enough to reverse the result. That is why, by mutual agreement, we came to that decision.”
Finally, the former footballer referred to the appointment of 'Coco' as acting technical director. “We are giving a great opportunity to a well-prepared coach, who knows what it is like to be a champion with the U and the essence of the club. We are going to take this slow knowing that we depend on results.”
