In the municipality of Caborca, Sonora, drug messages signed by alleged members of the criminal group Gente Nueva, a cell belonging to the Sinaloa Cartel, were reported.
“It is forbidden to sell glass”, one of the blankets hung on a vehicle bridge reads.
Although in recent days the war in Caborca has calmed down, the authorities remain on alert.
For more than two years, according to the local weekly Zeta Tijuana, the US ICE, through the Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), is investigating drug trafficking in Sonora.
In August 2020, he denounced to Mexican authorities the war inside the Sinaloa Cartel between Los Chapitos, Ismael el Mayo Zambada and Rafael Caro Quintero. The three groups, according to official information, are vying for supremacy in various municipalities of the state.
Los Chapitos — led by brothers Iván Archivaldo El Chapito and Jesús Alfredo, Alfredito, Guzmán Salazar, and their fellow fraternal Ovidio El Raton and Joaquín El Güero Moreno Guzmán López — occupy high-ranking command positions in the Sinaloa cartel.
In Sonora they formed small armies to dispute the territory between them, Gente Nueva, Los Salazar and Grupo Delta. In recent months, the Armed Forces have arrested some of the chiefs of the plaza identified in investigations.
On April 17, two different events sowed terror in the town of southern Sonora, with the appearance of two bodies hanging on a bridge in Empalme, one of them allegedly a member of Los Salazar; in addition, seven people were victims of an armed attack.
The Attorney General's Office of the State of Sonora (FGE) reported the violent events through its social networks.
“Members of the #MesaEstatalDeSeguridad attended #CódigoRojo for the discovery of two dead bodies, at 00:25 hours this Sunday, April 17, in complete suspension in #Empalme, Bridge of the International Highway Bypass,” reported the Prosecutor's Office.
Staff of the unit moved to the scene to carry out the investigations into the case, and they were able to locate an alleged drug message.
The return of the Narco de Narcos
The criminal cell led by Rafael Caro Quintero is identified as the Caborca Cartel. According to intelligence information, this group is made up of relatives of the kingpin.
The Caborca Cartel became visible in 2020, through a narcomanta: “We are informing the people of the Costa, we are the people of Caro Quintero. This square belonged to us and now all those producers, merchants, miners in the region, will have to pay for the square, here we are to clean up. We are the Sweeper 24/7, the R Rodrigo Paez and Cara de Cochi, and all together we are the Caborca Cartel”, he read.
