As expected, the presidential candidate of the Historical Pact, Gustavo Petro, did not hesitate to react to the poll by foreign firm Celag, which shows its eventual triumph over his opponent Federico 'Fico' Gutiérrez, in the upcoming presidential elections in Colombia.
Through his Twitter account, the candidate assured that these results are “convincing” in the face of the electoral landscape that will be experienced on May 29 during the first presidential round. To the question of 'If the presidential election were tomorrow, which of the following candidates would you vote for? ' , the respondents responded like this.
42.6% said they would choose Gustavo Petro, who would win with more than 20 percentage points above his closest electoral rival, the candidate of the Team for Colombia, Federico 'FiCo' Gutiérrez, who received 21.8%.
Behind them two, and as has been seen in other electoral studies, is the former mayor of Bucaramanga, Rodolfo Hernández, who reached 11.5%, followed by the candidate of the Centro Esperanza Coalition, Sergio Fajardo (9.2%).
In the last places are the candidate of the Oxygen Green party, Ingrid Betancourt, with 1.0%. The back is the answer 'others', with 0.8%; in that percentage would be candidates Luis Pérez, Enrique Gómez and John Milton Rodríguez.
Perhaps what is most striking about Celag's study is that in a possible second round the Presidency of the Republic, Petro and Gutiérrez, would be disputed. This fact did not go unnoticed by the candidate of the Historical Pact, who was positive that he would defeat Gutiérrez in the eventual ballot.
According to the poll, in the second round of June this year, Gustavo Petro would win 51.7% of the votes, followed by Federico Gutiérrez, with 32.6%. In those elections the blank vote would reach 10.4 per cent.
Celag also asked respondents 'who do you think will be the next president? ' , to which 54.9 per cent assured that it will be Petro, followed by Fico with 32.6%. In the other places are Hernández with 0.8% and last Fajardo with 0.3%.
It should be recalled that Caracol Radio and its Infometrica Meta-Analysis report showed a few weeks ago that Petro has a 35.7% intention to vote. Behind him is the candidate Gutiérrez, who is qualified with 22.9%. Along these lines, the applicant's favorability improved after the results of the internal elections of March 13, when he was crowned official bishop of the center-right.
The survey also investigated the image of President Iván Duque, who faces 82.8% disadvantageability, compared to a scarce 9.9% favorability.
Former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez was also evaluated by the study. 30.2% think he should go behind bars; 13.9% want him to continue doing politics, while 41.3% want him to get out of the political activities of his party, the Democratic Center, the same one with which Duque won the elections in 2018.
As for the problems that most concern Colombians, 63.3% agreed that it is the lack of employment, while 15.6% said that they were very high prices. In addition, debts, pensions and lack of private investment also recorded percentages.
Likewise, Celag asked himself 'What is the main structural problem that Colombia has in your opinion, regardless of who governs? ' 44.8% said it was corruption, 27.7% poverty and hunger; 11.1% crime; 8.5% political class and 5.6% drug trafficking.
