A new case of sexual abuse against a minor within an educational institution came to light. The events took place at the Centro Social school, located in Yopal, Casanare.
According to the investigation carried out by the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, Germán Torres Aguilar, the physical education teacher at that educational institution, took advantage of his position to deceive a minor and sexually abuse her.
According to the accounts of the 13-year-old girl, the teacher allegedly led her with deception and taking advantage of her status of superiority, to a room where sports equipment was kept to carry out the alleged abuse.
The minor said that the teacher carried out abusive touching, violence and intimidation, according to the Attorney General's Office.
The victim complained to the Yopal Sectional Prosecutor's Office, which in turn certified copies to the Public Prosecutor's Office in order to advance the corresponding disciplinary process.
The watchdog reported that after having notified the statement of objections, the file will be assigned to one of the Delegated Prosecutors responsible for the trial of public officials to continue the disciplinary process.
It should be recalled that so far this year there have been numerous complaints of sexual abuse of minors in educational institutions, so in places like Bogotá and Medellín, the same students have made different demonstrations against this problem.
In Bogotá alone, according to figures from the Attorney General's Office, 163 cases of alleged sexual abuse that occurred in schools are investigated.
In 61% of the cases of sexual abuse reported last year, the victims were minors
According to a report released by the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in 2021 there were about 43,993 complaints associated with sexual abuse, of which 61% were cases against children and adolescents. Of these, only 13% reported nationally are brought before a judge.
After this analysis carried out by the Laboratory of Economics of Education of the Universidad Javeriana, he stressed that children, young people who are victims of sexual harassment or abuse have delays in their development, anxiety, stigmatization, low self-esteem, among other problems that cause three times lower performance in the tests of States, more likely to repeat school resources and drop out of school.
According to the report, when they reach adulthood these abused minors will be twice as likely to be in poverty or have economic difficulties, poor job performance or problems getting employment.
