Alberto Fujimori was transferred to a clinic due to oxygenation problems

The former President of the Republic, Alberto Fujimori, was rushed to Hospital II Vitarte in the early hours of Sunday as a result of the atrial fibrillation he suffers from and “oxygen issues”, according to his lawyer, Elio Riera. In addition, he specified that the former president will be treated at the Centenario clinic where he will be examined by medical specialists.

“He was helped and taken to an EsSalud in Ate. Happily, INPE's care was very good and it came to stabilize momentarily, but it is on its way to the Centennial Clinic where the primary doctors are and we hope it can be stabilized 100%,” the lawyer told Canal.

He also argued that “it is a severe condition” related to atrial fibrillation that he suffers from and recalled that Alberto Fujimori has a history of heart attack and others diseases more.

“Obviously it had to be a very high decompensation so that at dawn he could be transferred to a hospital in the State. At the clinic we hope to have a more specialized comment from the doctors in your case,” he added.

In the same vein, he denied that the relapse in his client's state of health has any connection with the decision of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights ( Inter-American Court), which ordered the State not to execute the decision of the Constitutional Court for contravening established standards.

EPISODE OF TACHYCARDIA

The Social Health Security (EsSalud) reported that Fujimori Fujimori had an episode of tachycardia, so he was admitted at approximately 1.00 am to Hospital II Vitarte.

“The patient was stabilized by doctors in the area of shock trauma and referred to the intensive care unit (ICU) where he remained until his transfer. Likewise, the doctors of the Centenario Clinic requested his referral where his treatment will continue,” a statement reads.

Hours later, the former presidential candidate and leader of the Popular Force, Keiko Fujimori, arrived.

The Government communicated on the future of Alberto Fujimori, notably stating that what was ordered by the Inter-American Court, which requests not to comply with the ruling of the Constitutional Court in favor of the former president. This announcement was made through Chancellor César Landa.

“By resolution of the Inter-American Court, Peru must refrain from implementing the ruling of the Constitutional Court of March 17, 2022, which ordered to 'restore' the effects of the pardon of December 24, 2017 granted to Alberto Fujimori, since it did not comply with what was ordered by the Inter-American Court,” he wrote on his social networks.

The former head of state came close to regaining his freedom after the vote of four judges of the Constitutional Court. Ernesto Blume, José Luis Sardón and Augusto Ferrero, the latter being the president of the organ gave the final vote against the three against represented by Manuel Miranda, Marianella Ledesma Narváez and Eloy Espinosa-Saldaña.

“The State of Peru must refrain from implementing the judgment handed down by the Constitutional Court of Peru on March 17, 2022, which restores the effects of the pardon 'for humanitarian reasons' granted to Alberto Fujimori Fujimori on December 24, 2017, due to its failure to comply with the conditions determined in the resolution of supervision of compliance with sentences of May 30, 2018,” said the Court.

Former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (PPK) offered the humanitarian pardon to Alberto Fujimori on December 24, 2017. In October 2018, the Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation of the Supreme Court annulled the former president's release and ordered his arrest to return to prison. Hours after the resolution was announced, it was made public that the former head of state had been transferred to a clinic in Lima for a heart condition.
