The arrest warrant against Eliseo “N”, former mayor of the municipality of Campeche and whoever was running for the government of the state in the recent elections in 2021, was confirmed by Layda Sansores, current president. The member of the Movimiento Ciudadano party is accused of embezzlement of public funds.
According to the governor Morenista, Eliseo is accused of having carried out embezzlement, operations with resources of illicit origin, tax fraud, criminal association and false invoicing. According to Sansores herself, the former official is a fugitive from the law because he did not appear for the first appointments with the judge.
“He ransacked. He's on the run, he's a fugitive. The one who said 'the honest candidate' is nothing more than people who have no scruples. There are other investigations going on, but it is very sad that he did that,” Layda said to local media.
And he added: “I hope he shows up. He talked about how he owed nothing and since the hearing he didn't show up. This arrest warrant is the consequence, not even of a complaint that we have filed, but of the state audit that it did to the municipality and which found the crime of embezzlement, which has compulsory prison. That you can't get exempt from pretrial detention with a fine. That's why I think he's scared.”
The judicial authorities issued the arrest warrant on April 6 of this year under folio number 300/21-2022/JC and it was integrated into the investigation folder 4729/21-2022/JC. The Public Prosecutor's Office Specialized in the Fight against Corruption of the entity investigates, among other crimes already mentioned, the embezzlement of more than 50 million pesos originating in the treasury.
Sansores also indicated that an immigration alert was placed International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to detect Elisha if she intends to leave the country or cross any border between countries.
On social media, it was that the former mayor made his last public pronunciation. “We will not fall into provocations or react to antics and lies. Time will take care of putting things in their place. We do our thing! To continue preparing to improve our state,” he wrote on Twitter on April 9. The publication was accompanied by a photo in which he appears at the Harvard Kennedy School, in the United States.
Eliseo has a degree in Marketing and a Master's Degree in Digital Journalism. As a public servant he has been a local deputy for district II and municipal president of Campeche for the period 2018-2021. According to Movimiento Ciudadano's transparency site, it has been recognized for maintaining transparent administration by NGOs, not to mention which ones.
