This Good Friday, the commemoration of the traditional viacrucis was held in Plaza de Bolívar in downtown Bogotá. During the tour of the 14 stations, Monsignor Luis José Rueda, president of the Colombian Episcopal Conference, called on the candidates for the presidency to try to be an example of reconciliation and unity.
Archbishop Rueda recalled that it is necessary to get out of indifference and work together for peace in the midst of the violence that rages on the national territory.
He also stated that candidates put aside hate speech and lies that lead to 'destruction'.
Finally, the spokesman for the Colombian Episcopal Conference mentioned that one of the steps taken in that commemorative viacrucis had to do with the pardon requested by members of the church in the country, such as bishops, priests and other members of the Catholic faith.
The leader of the Historical Pact, Gustavo Petro, did not let go unnoticed what Good Friday means for those who profess the Catholic faith, although his message was open to those who follow him.
In a video that lasts 54 seconds, the candidate spoke about the importance of strengthening the family, announcing that more than 5 million families have the mother figure as head of households due to the absence of their partner in different circumstances, which is why he proposes that there be more education and greater stability in homes within a a progressive government, such as the one he enacts in his presidential campaign.
On Federico Gutiérrez's side, the Antioquian candidate left a trill on Twitter with which he greeted not only Catholics, but those who profess another religion or don't.
“I hope that Colombian Catholics will find these days a space to live their faith. And I hope that those who practice other religions or none, are also spending some quiet days with their own,” Gutierrez said.
In the same message, Federico shared what Good Friday represents for him, accompanied by the text with a photo of him with his family.
“For me, Holy Week is a time of reflection and gratitude. This year in particular is also a stop on a busy road to spend time with the family.”
