The presidential candidate for Centro Esperanza, Sergio Fajardo, published on his Twitter account the union with the criticism that different political sectors have made of his adversary Gustavo Petro, for the proposal to grant “social pardon”.
Through a video, Fajardo explained that, “The 'Picota Pact' is a gift disguised under the name of “social forgiveness” that Petro offers to the corrupt people of our country. Colombia is full of thousands of victims, of those corrupt people who have no voice, who do not recognize each other and who have never been repaired.”
For the candidate, the proposal “is much more serious than it seems,” and he assured that, “from the darkness of prisons one cannot reach the presidency of Colombia.”
The one who was not silent about Petro's controversial proposal was the candidate for President for the Oxygen Green party, Ingrid Betancourt. The former congressman, who has been in controversial clashes with the candidate of the Historical Pact, described the social forgiveness initiative as “a pact with the devil.” Moreover, for the former abductee, this initiative is to propose “impunity”.
“Going to prisons to propose impunity in exchange for votes, what more moral decay than that? Colombia must do the opposite, it must send very clear messages that those who commit crimes by robbing Colombians of their future and resources must go to jail and have to have a sanction that impoverishes them,” said Betancourt, while saying that Petro's idea encourages corruption.
On the right, there was no shortage of questions either. The candidate of the National Salvation Movement, who has also repeatedly deferred with Gustavo Petro, did not miss an opportunity to question him this time and say that “social forgiveness is a pardon for the corrupt” and said what actions he would take if he is president. Gómez is last in the intention to vote for the Presidency.
“What the country needs most is more justice against the corrupt. More prisons for the corrupt and total social condemnation,” said Gómez, in turn calling Senators Roy Barreras and Armando Benedetti, two of the most faithful squires of the head of Human Colombia, “corrupt”. What's more, he even reminded Petro of the scandal over the so-called 'petrovideo'.
Another one who joined the reproaches against the also former mayor of Bogotá was his closest opponent, according to recent polls, the candidate of the Team for Colombia, Federico 'Fico' Gutiérrez. With a hostile video response, the aspirant asked Petro that “if you're going to lie to people head-on, as you always do, let it be at least Easter. In fact, he even asked him not to play “the fool”.
