Recently there was a new controversy involving presidential candidate Gustavo Petro. This is an alleged proposal for “social pardon”, which in a few words contemplated the idea of reducing penalties and even forgiving them, for persons convicted of various crimes.
In the midst of this network, Noticias Uno revealed the document entitled 'Initial approaches and generalized roadmap towards peace dialogues with the agents of violence' that Gustavo Petro had allegedly made.
The document, written in the first person, reads several concepts that the candidate of the Historical Pact has used in his speech during the campaign for the presidency of Colombia.
“My proposal is in line with international budgets of how to live in a civilized society, leaving behind decades of unjustified violence against communities and territories. When I have proposed for debate and analysis the concept of Colombia as a life power, I adjust to these assumptions by moving away from individualistic considerations or personal criteria on these issues. For these and other reasons, we have also raised the concept of “social forgiveness”,” says the document.
It should be noted that the document circulating in prisons has neither the candidate's signature nor the logos of his campaign. As reported by the above-mentioned media outlet, the candidate of the Historical Pact categorically denied being the author of this proposal.
He also noted that this would be a strategy to muddy his campaign. At this point it is important to clarify that the document in question began to circulate on Wednesday, March 23, before the visit of Gustavo Petro's brother to La Picota prison.
That is why, for some, this would be nothing more than a plan developed to make people believe that the candidate for the presidency intends to forgive all the criminals in the country.
News One, who was able to meet some of the inmates who learned about the document, reported that even the prisoners concluded that this was a trap because the proposals made in the document are not attached to the reality of the country and are very unlikely to comply.
Petro clarified that no proposal that decreases or forgives convictions is in his plans
The member of the Historical Pact published a video in which he clarified the rumors that have emerged on social networks about a mass outflow of prisoners convicted of corruption within his government plan.
He also assured that he rejects the “clumsy idea” of the search for reconciliation to a “reduction of penalties for the corrupt” and assured that he will not do so “even in a nightmare” would it occur to reduce penalties for the corrupt.
“Other rivals do have them as allies and ready to wield power. We are those corrupt condemned prisoners,” said the candidate, who recalled in the video that the investigations he did as a senator led many to prison.
Finally, he recalled that his brother (Juan Fernando Petro) is not part of the campaign nor does he belong to any management position, clarifying that his work is linked to the interchurch commission on justice and peace.
