They were minutes of terror, but they succeeded. Some workers at a construction site became heroes when they saved a dog that was dragged by the current of a rainwater channel in Pasaje canton, in the province of El Oro, in Ecuador. The post went viral on social media.
The little animal fell and was washed away by a stream of water. Upon seeing this, the workers joined forces to rescue him with a crane. While one of them directs the bulldozer arm, his partner catches the dog when it passes. The others helped, from above, by indicating what they should do: teamwork.
The worker intercepted the pet on its way, but it took a few moments to bring it to safety due to the force of the water that prevented him from getting it afloat immediately. Although it was risky, he was able to rescue her.
After taking her into his arms, the dog was safely taken ashore. The dog dried up and looked from one side to the other as a form of thanks.
“They informed us that there was a puppy inside the channel and with my partner we decided to go down to rescue him as seen in the video,” one worker told Radio La Voz de El Oro.
“We are working and decided to come together to help the animal to give it one more chance to live. We agreed. Everything was quick to stretch the arm of the machine to rescue the puppy,” added another construction worker.
The worker who got on the excavator to rescue the little animal said that it was complicated because the dog almost went under the crane and, although it bit it slightly, he was able to catch it and lift it ashore.
“We took a collection and took her to the vet to give her some injections for inflammation. Until recently he was here, but then he left,” said the rescue worker.
In addition, another employee who was at the time of the rescue, replied to those who believed that the images had been made to become viral: “For those who said it was made to look good. It was something unforeseen, that we did it from the heart, not to appear on social networks.”
“A tip for people who have pets, to take care of them because they are like human beings: they can't talk, but you do feel”, he concluded.
REACTIONS ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Ecuadorian journalist Henry Alfredo Dueñas was the one who spread the video that went viral on social media. “Workers save a dog that was washed away by the current in a rainwater channel in the Pasaje El Oro canton,” he wrote on his Twitter account. Users of the microblogging network applauded the workers' action, calling them brave.
“Hero! How noble!” , “what a noble gesture... In the face of these gestures should the municipalities and authorities act. Things that seem minuscule but are great”, “these wonderful human beings understood everything, life is that, always add up! There will always be divine reward for acts like this!” , “excellent humanitarian work with this mascot”, were some of the comments about rescue workers.
