The historic former player of the Colombian national team Freddy Rincón died on Wednesday night, after having spent three days in intensive care, after suffering a traffic accident in Cali in the early hours of Monday, April 11: he hit a feeder bus of MÍO's public transport.
The Buenos Aires player played for Real Madrid between 1995 and 1996, becoming the first Colombian to reach Real Madrid. He arrived at the 'merengue' ensemble after having worn the Napoli shirt. It can be said that this was one of the most important moments in Freddy Rincón's career.
For a cost of four million euros, at that time, Freddy Rincón arrived at Real Madrid. Valdano didn't last long leading the Colombian. Then, with the arrival of Arsenio Iglesias, the chances of the former Independiente Santa Fe footballer playing decreased. The Vallecaucano barely managed to score 21 matches, 13 of them as a starter, and managed to score a single goal.
At 9 a.m., Spanish time, Real Madrid issued a press release, through its social networks, in which it regrets the death of the footballer who was part of the squad in the 1990s. In addition, he sent his condolences to the fans of Madrid and the 'colossus'.
“Freddy Rincón won 1 Club World Cup and 2 Brazilian Leagues with Corinthians, 2 Colombian Leagues with America de Cali and 1 Colombian Cup with Independiente Santa Fe. Freddy Rincón died at the age of 55. Real Madrid extends its condolences to the whole of Madrid”, he concludes.
On Monday Freddy Rincón was transferred to the Imbanaco Clinic, in the capital of the department of Valle del Cauca, where Laureano Quintero, chief physician, confirmed that the former footballer was in a “very critical condition” and that he had “severe head trauma”.
The accident was recorded on a security camera in the sector where it occurred, in which you can see the moment when the feeder bus collided with the Ford 4x4 truck in race 5 and calle 34, near the Pascual Guerrero stadium.
The former footballer of Independiente Santa Fe y América de Cali was sitting in the co-driver's position, so he received the full blow. “The vehicle that Mr. Rincón was driving went off the track and ended with a lateral overturn,” said Colonel Mariano Botero, commander of the Valle del Cauca Police.
