Modesto Montoya, Minister of Environment, was of course, when referring to the various confrontations that occur between the branches of the State. The renowned nuclear physicist expressed his concern, since this situation does not lead to anything good for the country's governance.
Speaking to the press, when he left the Government Palace, the official said that the population “has put the cross on everyone”, which is why we must start working together for the benefit of the most needy in Peru.
“We are all listening to Peru, listening to communities, listening to their problems, what we can see is that some have encouraged a fight between the Government and Congress, so they have put the cross on all of us,” he said.
“I have seen in a poll that the president is low in the polls, but Congress is worse, that is the result of the fights, to solve the problems you have to be united. I think the president of the congress understood. Either we work together or we all leave, ” he added.
When asked about the constitutional complaint against President Pedro Castillo and the interpellation motion against Aníbal Torres, the official assured that all this is the “result of the fights.”
CRITICISM OF THE OMBUDSMAN
Minister Montoya criticized through his Twitter account the request of the Ombudsman, Walter Gutiérrez, who issued a document requesting the resignation of President Pedro Castillo.
“The Ombudsman, Walter Gutiérrez, seems to be defending interests outside democracy. Despite the fact that the people chose Pedro Castillo within the democratic framework, the Ombudsman wants to ignore him. And he does so when his term ended nearly a year ago,” he said through his Twitter account.
The one who also criticized Gutiérrez's actions was the Minister for Women, Diana Miloslavich, who assures that the Ombudsman should stop making political statements “that do not belong to him” because it weakens his institution.
“It seems to me that we must continue to bet on the Ombudsman's Office, but Dr. Gutiérrez weakens the Ombudsman's Office, he is making political statements that do not correspond to him at this time,” he told Radio Nacional.
“He is declaring about the resignation and the presidential vacancy, I think he should not make these statements, we must strengthen the Office of the Ombudsman, it should be maintained without giving political opinions,” he added.
WHAT DID WALTER GUTIERREZ'S DOCUMENT SAY?
Walter Gutiérrez asked the president of the republic, Pedro Castillo, to resign from office “to begin an exit course in front of this serious crisis”.
“In safeguarding fundamental rights and preserving the smooth running of the public administration, the Office of the Ombudsman demands that you carry out an act responsible towards the country and loyal to the Constitution, proceeding to resign from office,” he said in the document.
Through this office, the institution expressed its position in the face of the “serious political crisis in which the country finds itself”.
“Based on our constitutional mandate to be guarantors of the fundamental rights of the population, as well as supervisors of the proper provision of public services and the fulfillment of the duties of the state administration,” he said.
He added that, “since a historical-constitutional reading, resignation has not been a mere voluntary and personal legal act, but a form of solution that former leaders have turned to when they have noticed the seriousness of the crisis and understood that they themselves were an obstacle to finding a way out”.
