Juan Sebastián Huertas Parra was the leader of Aletheia Education S.A.S., an alleged pyramid that was suspended by the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce for assuming liabilities by receiving contributions from a supposed investment fund, under the name 'Aletheia crowdfunding, 'which did not have the proper authorization for these activities.
According to W Radio, Juan Sebastián Huertas Parra is a former driver of the Uber platform and would have cheated about 60 people who mortgaged their homes and/or sold their car on the promise that they would return what they had contributed plus a fixed return.
The watchdog noted that Huertas entered into an 'accession contract' with which it received money from third parties who did not give any instructions for the specific allocation of resources. I made a promise that they would return the full amount plus 20% within 30 days and 100% if they waited 150 days. These movements did not demonstrate any justification for making such payments.
Through resolution number 0418 of April 5, 2022, the Financial Superintendency ordered Aletheia Education S.A.S to immediately return the resources illegally collected, due to the prohibition of carrying out operations to collect unauthorized money from the public on a massive scale, regardless of the modality or figure that he uses, either directly or through other natural or legal persons.
In the notification the SIC even ordered it to remove any advertising or advertisement from all media, including social networks: “Remove from all media used directly or through another person, including public or private profiles on social networks, any term, word or allusion by which the general public and its clients, who are authorized to manage investment funds and/or carry out crowdfunding activities, may be misunderstood.”
The Superfinanciera pointed out that, in Colombia, the administration of investment funds is an activity of the stock market, therefore, it can only be carried out by entities incorporated in the national territory and that are under the supervision of the State. This is why “Collective Investment Funds can only be managed by stock exchange brokerage companies, trust companies or investment management companies”.
A copy was also sent to the Office of the Prosecutor General and other competent authorities to carry out the corresponding investigations in criminal matters.
Noticias Uno had already denounced this firm in a report where they pointed out, for example, that one of the victims showed the audios where Juan Sebastián Huertas said “guys who gets half a million pesos on Instagram in a weekend?”. Another said that he came to Aletheia because of a publication by the influencer “La Liendra”. There they claimed that some 60 people had reported being scammed by Huertas, who accuse him of stealing nearly 540 million pesos from them.
