“We had never seen anything like it in our lives, it was truly terrifying, suddenly, in the middle of the empty and silent street, when most of us were already asleep, we heard screams and various detonations of firearms coming from a neighbor's house.”
This is how the inhabitants of the La Cañada neighborhood, in the municipality of Tultepec, State of Mexico, described the moment when a family made up of eight people, including three girls and one boy, were murdered in the early hours of last Monday, April 11.
Four of the victims, identified as Mrs. Doña Rosa, her daughters Claudia and Jazmin, as well as their grandchildren Aldahir and Mia, were veiled this Tuesday, April 12, at a funeral home in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, where only relatives and a considerable number of armed police attended. The other three victims were veiled in a place that was not disclosed by the authorities.
The Attorney General's Office (FGJ) of the State of Mexico has focused its investigations on the father of the family, identified as Jonathan Ulises, because they suspect that the four men who arrived on two motorcycles at the family home were after him to collect a debt for drug trafficking.
Investigations that have followed the massacre have revealed that 22-year-old Jonathan was part of a group of narco-nudists operating in the area, but from whom he had recently separated. It is presumed that the hit men belonged to the Los Rikis gang, but the prosecution pointed out that it cannot yet be taken as official information.
The group would be dedicated to drug sales and floor charges in the municipalities of Tultepec, Melchor Ocampo, Tultitlán and Estado de México. The perpetrators were unofficially identified as Ricky Ángel Fragoso Villaseñor, alias El Rikis or El Apá, Brayan Bautista Martínez, alias El Moreno, Alan Mendoza Monterrubio, alias El Rena and Jesús Soto, alias El Chuchin.
The experts who processed the crime scene found there more than 30 bullet casings and a bag with capsules containing suspected cocaine. One of the deceased had managed to survive the attack and was taken to Vicente Villada hospital, where she had been reported in a delicate condition. However, moments later his death was announced.
Residents of the area told local media that they did notice the detonations of firearms, although at first they thought they were fireworks. Fearing that they would be attacked, they sheltered in their homes and did not go out into the streets. Later, they notified the Edomex authorities to come to the scene.
At the time of arriving at the La Cañada colony, the Mexican authorities found the seven bodies with the shot de grace.
The State of Mexico is one of the states with the highest levels of crime incidence. According to the Executive Secretariat of the State Public Security System, so far in 2022, 62,129 crimes of various kinds have been registered in this state.
