The Belgian single-day competition had a 205.1 km course between Leuven and Overijse where the riders had to constantly climb several slopes that were diminishing the strength of a large part of the peloton, at least of the cyclists who were gregarious for the first half of the race.
On the list of favorites were the Frenchman and two-time road world champion Julian Alaphilippe of Quick Step Alpha Vinil and his teammate Remco Evenepoel. However, it should be borne in mind that there was also the defensive champion of this competition, Tom Pidcock of the Ineos Grenadiers who won in 2021 there.
The English team worked all day trying to position their star rider in the best way, while other riders who knew that Pidcock had to follow the wheel, did not lose sight of him at all times, knowing that he usually has very strong starts to go solo or select the group.
Little by little the main lot was reduced, as the conditions of the road did not suit many considering that there were some areas with pavé or cobblestone. In these areas it was used to give the most skilled in these areas the advantage.
Remco (Quick Step), Barguil (Arkea Samsic), Tom Pidcock, Ben Turner and Magnus Sheffield (Ineos Grenadiers), Tim Wellens (Lotto Soudal) and Benoit Cosnefroy (Ag2r) settled for long kilometers at the top.
Among the 7 cyclists, they isolated the largest group that traveled very close to them with some other favorites such as Matteo Trentin of UAE Team Emirates, who at less than 15 km had to react to reach the top group in order to compete for the title.
However, Remco Evenepoel put a very strong step in the pavé, managing to get more seconds out of the other runners and tightening the pace of his rivals.
The weather became quite cold and could be the cause of some runners who were expected to be ahead, not having great performance.
Finally, the road would only open in the first positions for the escaped favorites, with the exception being Julian Alaphilippe who, in addition to not being able to get into the main group, had a sharp fall that worried the team since the images showed how he held his left arm in pain.
Ineos Grenadiers was able to maintain numerical superiority and with a good strategy he has once again won the Brabanzona Arrow championship for the second year in a row.
In competition for the Colombians, Winner Anacona enlisted with Arkea Samsic, Sebastián Molano with the UAE Team Emirates and Johnatan Cañaveral with Bardiani CSF.
Sebastián Molano retired in the course of the race, finishing his work as gregario of the Italian Matteo Trentin and his team. A similar case presented Anacona who was accompanying Barguil until a certain point during the day and then went on his way entering the 40° to 1′46″ box.
Johnatan Cañaveral served his leader Enrico Bataglin in the Bardiani CSF, although the Colombians would ultimately be one of the best placed on his team in the finish line achieving the 46th to 4′44″ position of the winner.
