In the early hours of last Tuesday, April 12, a new case of femicide was recorded in Cundinamarca, this time in Mesitas del Colegio. The authorities recently reported that the person suspected of the crime had already been captured.
According to information issued to the Government of Cundinamarca, the events were reported around 4:00 a.m. in the center of El Colegio. There, the victim's former romantic partner reportedly attacked her with a knife on several occasions.
According to the first reports, the woman had at least five injuries on her body caused by the sharp object used by those who previously had a romantic relationship with her.
Information from some witnesses indicates that the alleged perpetrator, that is, his former partner, approached the victim once she left work and attacked her to death.
The alleged perpetrator fled; however, according to the Government of Cundinamarca, the rapid action of the local authorities allowed him to be located and captured. This, too, thanks to the testimonies and evidence gathered by the authorities on Tuesday, April 12.
Rejection of this type of event in Cundinamarca
The Government of Cundinamarca condemned these events and reported that, in coordination with the Office of the Ombudsman, it will guarantee judicial representation and provide psychosocial support to the family of the woman killed in Mesitas del Colegio.
Likewise, the territorial entity reported that it requested the competent authorities to investigate this crime under the criminal category of femicide within the framework of Law 1761 of 2015, also known as the Rosa Elvira Cely Law.
The Government of Cundinamarca affirmed that it will continue to work to eliminate barriers to access to justice and achieve a rapid, effective and guaranteeing women's rights response.
Likewise, the administration of Nicolás García assured that it joins the campaign 'Not one less', which seeks to combat this type of gender-based crime, and will continue to work to address the phenomenon of structural and systematic violence against women.
Another woman murdered in Cundinamarca
It should be recalled that at the beginning of March the authorities reported a similar case, in which a woman was brutally murdered with a knife.
Authorities in the municipality of Vergara, Cundinamarca, found the lifeless body of Dora Luz Balamba, a 58-year-old woman who was murdered in her home, located in the Rioseco village, La Meseta sector. The events reportedly occurred on the night of Sunday, February 27.
Reports indicated that the victim had several wounds with a sharp weapon, such as knives and machete. Even the harshness of the murder was such that the woman was cut from the pelvis to the chest. Likewise, it was evident that she was subjected to torture, the product of several “blunt” blows to the face, and had been sexually abused.
