The presidential candidates did not go unnoticed by the presidential candidates the proposal of “social pardon” made by one of their opponents at the polls, Gustavo Petro Urrego, who in recent years hours went into the eye of the hurricane again for justifying, in some way, the brothers Iván and Samuel Moreno, convicted by the so-called contracting carousel in Bogotá.
From the right to the center, all the candidates for succeeding President Iván Duque issued impetuous questions against the fellow leader of Human Colombia, after it became known that his brother Juan Fernando Petro went to La Picota prison to talk to Iván Moreno.
For example, the presidential candidate of the Centro Esperanza Coalition, Sergio Fajardo, who has been one of Petro's main critics in recent days, issued a pronouncement in which, from the Coffee Region, he was against the visit of Petro's brother to the capital's penitentiary and took the opportunity to throw pullas at another of the candidates, Federico 'Fico' Gutiérrez.
Another one who was not silent about Petro's controversial proposal was the candidate for President for the Oxygen Green party, Ingrid Betancourt. The former congressman, who has been in controversial clashes with the candidate of the Historical Pact, described the social forgiveness initiative as “a pact with the devil.” Moreover, for the former abductee, this initiative is to propose “impunity”.
On the right, there was no shortage of questions either. The candidate of the National Salvation Movement, who has also repeatedly deferred with Gustavo Petro, did not miss an opportunity to question him this time and say that “social forgiveness is a pardon for the corrupt” and said what actions he would take if he is president. Gómez is last in the intention to vote for the Presidency.
“What the country needs most is more justice against the corrupt. More prisons for the corrupt and total social condemnation,” said Gómez, in turn calling Senators Roy Barreras and Armando Benedetti, two of the most faithful squires of the head of Human Colombia, “corrupt”. What's more, he even reminded Petro of the scandal over the so-called 'petrovideo'.
Another one who joined the reproaches against the also former mayor of Bogotá was his closest opponent, according to recent polls, the candidate of the Team for Colombia, Federico 'Fico' Gutiérrez. With a hostile video response, the aspirant asked Petro that “if you're going to lie to people head-on, as you always do, let it be at least Easter. In fact, he even asked him not to play “the fool”.
Engineer Rodolfo Hernández, who is also competing for the presidency independently, did not post his opinion on video, but he did leave a short message on Twitter where he left the following message to the progressive candidate. “Gustavo Petro: Forgiveness is earned, it is not given away,” said the former mayor of Bucaramanga.
Finally, the candidate of the Christian political party Colombia Justa Libres also differed from the proposal of his electoral opponent and, via Twitter, said:
The only candidate who has not spoken about it is the former mayor of Medellín, Luis Pérez, who was linked months ago to petrianism.
For now, Gustavo Petro has not responded directly to all his contenders at the polls. However, he has left several messages on his social networks where he continues to defend the social forgiveness that today has it in the mouth of the wolf.
“It's not about how we forgive the ñoño (condemned by Odebrecht), it's about how we forgive each other as a society, in each specific territory, so as not to continue killing each other. To end the violence for good,” Petro said on his Twitter. Here are some other justifications.
