If any Infobae reader has problems playing some classic titles on their PS3 or PS Vita, it is necessary to know which users are reporting problems launching digitally purchased titles on both consoles, and the problem seems to come from PlayStation.
While digital has become the preferred format for gamers and businesses, there are a few things that show how fragile it can be. This is demonstrated by a new report by The Verge, where it is said that some classic games have become unusable on PS3 and PS Vita for reasons currently unknown.
The problem faced by the owners of these PS3 and PS Vita games is that the consoles now show them as “outdated”, according to the aforementioned medium. This, of course, does not allow the user to access them. In addition, and as a curious fact, the hypothetical expiration date appears as December 31, 1969 at 7:20 p.m. A date, other than that corresponding to more than half a century ago, does not make sense.
According to Twitter user FooseTV, the problem arose after downloading Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger on his console. Here, he explains that he “prevents you from playing” purchased Vita and PS3 copies of both games.
“Has @PlayStation expired the PSone Classics versions of #ChronoCross and #ChronoTrigger putting the date of the new downloads on 31/12/1969? This prevents me from playing my purchased copies on Vita and PS3,” wrote @FooseTV on Twitter.
Here are some games on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita that have been affected
The titles affected so far are Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. However, some other sites like GamesHub, Reddit or Twitter claim that these 3 games aren't the only ones that can't be started on PS3 and PS Vita.
In fact, the list is growing and includes more classics such as Rune Factory Oceans, Super Street Fighter VI: Arcade Edition or Gex: Enter the Gecko. Although others reported that their entire libraries were affected.
Of the many proven solutions that users have tried, these are the most notable: the cancellation of the subscription and then subscribing to PS Plus; restoring the game license and, resetting the factory settings of the console. However, none of that worked, so the PlayStation itself will have to deal with the situation.
While it was initially thought to be a mistake by Square Enix, it seems to have come directly from PlayStation. However, the company that owns PS has not yet commented on this, so for now users will have to continue to wait for a possible solution.
According to Kotaku, there may be a problem with the PlayStation server. The aforementioned media commented that the problem may have arisen after the PS3 and PS Vita consoles tried to delay the license expiration date to Unix time. The latter is an arbitrary date and time set by developers to indicate when the console lifecycle begins.
This event serves as a warning to many users. After all, just a few months ago, Sony almost dealt a knockout blow to the PS3 and PS Vita virtual stores.
After almost closing them in the middle of last year; the company has reconsidered its performance, although it has eliminated the possibility of using a credit card or PayPal to make purchases there.
