The proposal put forward on Monday, April 11 by presidential candidate Gustavo Petro caused quite a stir in the country, who promised that if he is president he will reform the plan of studies in schools and will implement a subject of digital programming. One of his critics was his opponent at the polls, Sergio Fajardo.
The aspirant of the Centro Esperanza Coalition deferred, again, with the candidate of the Historical Pact and assured that this initiative is “carreta”. Moreover, he said that when the next Government in Colombia ends, in August 2026, there will be discussions of other issues other than those proposed by Petro.
“No, Gustavo, that's almost like believing that if we include a political ethics class in high school, in 2026 we will no longer be discussing unfeasible proposals. Let's bet on science and technology, but without a cart,” said Fajardo on his official Twitter account.
As soon as he threw the bullet on his electoral contender, the former governor of Antioquia did not miss an opportunity to promote his government plan and the electoral strategies he has for Colombian students, both in basic and university education.
“Science, technology and innovation are fundamental to Colombia's future. That is why we started with the 'Zero Digital Poverty' initiative: all public school students in the country will have access to quality internet,” said Fajardo, who announced that if he arrives at Casa de Nariño as the successor of Iván Duque, he will carry out the following actions.
In a thread on that social network, Fajardo gave details of his educational proposal and, again, took the opportunity to refer to the initiative of the leader of Human Colombia on software. In that section, the former mayor of Medellín told how he will promote computer skills in Colombian youth. Of course, it is quite different from what Petro proposes.
“Mathematics is fundamental to programming. We will promote the open use of mathematical software and provide special stimuli for undergraduate students in mathematics, through the Youth in Action program,” concluded Sergio Fajardo in his Twitter post.
It is not the first time that the candidate for the presidency, who carries the flags of the center on his shoulders, vehemently questions the initiatives of those who seek to be head of state for the third time. In fact, this past weekend, Fajardo also threw pullas at Petro after he proposed to create five new metrocable lines for the city of Medellin.
Through his Twitter account, the aspirant of Centro Esperanza differed from the candidate of the Historical Pact and assured that these ideas are “unrealizable proposals”. Moreover, he implied that this initiative is improvised.
He added: “Promising 5 cables without explaining anything, without specifying what they are, is irresponsible. Ruling is not a Nintendo game. That is why we will strongly support the consolidation of the mass transit system by coordinating with the AMVA, the mayors, the Metro and others.”
Fajardo's criticism, in which he also faced several of his other proposals, came in response to Esteban Restrepo, former Secretary of Government of Medellín, who celebrated Petro's announcement, in which this week he announced his idea for the capital of Antioquia in terms of transport and mobility.
