In the middle of the Consultation on the revocation of President AMLO's mandate, this Sunday, April 10, a woman named María Dolores Gloria Hernandez, 74, lost her life to unspecified causes in a box in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León.
The incident happened at noon at the 75 technical secondary school, Professor Justo Díaz Ábrego, located at the crossroads of Cedros and Xochipilipi streets, in the Cima de las Mitras neighborhood of the entity, while the woman waited for her turn to access the box.
It transpired, according to a source, that the lady who had come to exercise her right to vote with her family, vanished outside one of the classrooms and fell to the second floor of one of the buildings of the school, from where some citizens who came to participate in the exercise moved her to the ground floor where they tried to revive her with first aid without success.
After giving notice, and after the report was broadcast on the radio station, rescuers from Civil Protection Jaguares de Santa Catarina came to the scene, who could not do anything for the woman's life, whom they found no longer vital signs. They reported that despite resuscitation maneuvers, they did not achieve favorable results.
Until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the units of the Expert Services had not arrived to collect the inquiries related to the death of the woman, and members of Municipal Public Security came to the place aboard unit number 1084, who entered the school.
For their part, staff of the National Electoral Institute (INE) proceeded to close the box temporarily due to the unexpected death.
After the incident, the polls were moved to another school building, but voting day was not canceled. The contiguous box 1 and 2 and basic, of the electoral section 2008 and federal district number 1, was toured and changed to another classroom on the same campus.
At the moment, the authorities have not determined what the cause of her death was, nor has it been determined whether the woman suffered from any medical condition that could have led to her death.
Preliminary results
The National Electoral Institute offered, at 8:00 p.m. this Sunday, the first cut of information on the results of the consultation to which President Andrés Manuel López Obrador underwent.
This happened two hours after the formal closure of the polls took place and it was reported that the consultation has led, in a preliminary manner, to the participation of 881,942 people.
Of these figures, 78,948 (8.95%) were for the revocation of the Tabasqueño mandate; 790,560 (89.63%) to continue; finally, 12,434 (1.41%) invalid votes. Meanwhile, until the first cut, 8,287 electronic votes were obtained out of 17,809, which is equivalent to 46.53% participation.
“The #VotoElectrónico abroad on the internet is a success! The 3 times it has been implemented, it has been widely accepted. In 2021 it had a 55.96% participation of registered voters and this year 46.53%, demonstrating great confidence in this system,” Councillor Carla Humphrey wrote on her Twitter account.
With less than 0.2 percent of citizen participation computed by the INE), the Head of Government of Mexico City released a joint statement with governors affiliated with the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), in which they celebrated the ratification of President López Obrador through the Consultation of Mandate Revocation.
“Long live democracy! #SomosMillonesConAMLO”, wrote Claudia Sheinbaum on her social networks along with the text in which they also attacked the INE, because although they stated their mistakes in the organization, they presumed that citizen participation was a success.
“Despite the fact that the INE did everything to prevent the participation of the people: such as the appointment of the date on the Sunday before Easter, the installation of a third of the squares regarding a constitutional election, its remoteness and poor location, the failure to previously inform the location of the same, as well as the last-minute changes; despite all this, the people voted and ratified our president.”
