Sergio Checo Pérez won his first podium at the start of the 2022 Formula 1 season. After a race with ups and downs for the Red Bull team at the Australian Grand Prix, the tapatio returned to his team in the fight for the constructors' championship.

With a second place, Checo celebrated his first triumph of this 2022 and through social networks he wrote an emotional message with which he shared the excitement generated by having stepped on the podium again.

In the first instance, Sergio spoke of the happiness that he was once again in the top three places of a Grand Prix, but he also regretted the event that left out his teammate Max Verstappen. This is how the Mexican driver wrote it on his official Twitter profile:

His message quickly exceeded 44,000 reactions of “like” as different fans of the Red Bull runner followed the competition live during the early hours of Sunday, April 10, so they congratulated him on his achievement and celebrated with him his success at the Albert Park Circuit.

It should be noted that Sergio took second place after the accident that left Verstappen out. Around lap 39, the Dutch champion stopped at a corner; his car started to smoke as he had mechanical failures that prevented him from continuing in the race. At that time, Checo Pérez was behind him, as the Austrian team was chasing 3-2 on the podium.

But once Verstappen left the competition, it gave way to Checo to compete for a second place. This is how in the last laps he signed his first victory of 2022 and was able to get his 16th podium throughout his career as a Formula 1 driver.

At the end of the competition, Checo Pérez spoke to the press and described what they obtained in Australia as a “good result”; however, he also regretted what happened as Verstappen as they could have agreed on a double podium for the team.

“It's a good result, but unfortunately we lost Max, it would have been great to have a double podium for the team. We had a bit of bad luck in the first races,” he said for the Formula 1 channel.
