During the march that was convened by the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) and the Unitary Union of Workers in Education of Peru (SUTEP) in the center of Lima, Congressman Guillermo Bermejo, from Democratic Peru, was present and was consulted by the press on the Prime Minister's statements Aníbal Torres, who flattered the genocidal Adolf Hitler at the start of the decentralized Council of Ministers session in Huancayo last Thursday.
“Hitler and Mussolini were criminals who destroyed half of Europe, but it must also be said that I cannot accept the statements of the Israeli embassy because Israel does the same thing that the Nazis did to the Jews; now the Israelis are doing it to the Palestinians,” the parliamentarian declared.
Bermejo also spoke out against Israel on his social networks. He noted that the sovereign country of Asia is based on “ethnic cleansing, far-right groups, land theft, destruction of property” and more, due to the conflict they maintain with Palestine. In this regard, he argued that the actions of the Government of Israel are carried out “under the passive gaze of nations”.
“Don't let the Israeli embassy come to give sermons about criminal regimes that what they do with Palestine puts it in the same group: ethnic cleansing, extreme right groups, theft of land and destruction of property, use of prohibited weapons, attacks on civilians, five million refugees, thousands of prisoners, children among them and a wall five times larger than that of Berlin. And they do that today in the face of the passive gaze of nations,” he wrote.
He also criticized the words of Prime Minister Aníbal Torres praising the two greatest genocides in world history. “Just mentioning Hitler and Mussolini as a positive example is a mistake. Without a doubt and it was wrong,” he said.
STATEMENT FROM THE ISRAELI EMBASSY
After Aníbal Torres' speech praising Hitler and Mussolini, the Israeli embassy in Peru regretted those statements.
“We regret that Peruvian political discourse includes references such as Hitler and Mussolini as an example of prosperity. Regimes of death and terror cannot be a sign of progress. Hitler was responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews, praising him is an offense to the victims of that global tragedy,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
The German embassy in Peru also rejected Torres' words: “Adolf Hitler was a fascist and genocidal dictator in whose name the worst war of all time was waged from Germany and a genocide of 6 million Jews was committed. Faced with this scenario, Hitler is not a suitable reference as an example of any kind.”
