On May 29, the presidential elections will take place in the country and the candidate of the Historical Pact, Gustavo Petro, is one of the main protagonists in the midst of the election campaigns. The former mayor of Bogotá, who leads the polls and has become the target to be won at the polls by different political fronts, is touring different cities giving first-hand knowledge of some of his proposals.
In Medellín, he announced one that generated many comments on social networks and that Gustavo Petro himself has been responsible for explaining on several occasions. This is an economic proposal with which he hopes to raise 14 billion pesos. These are new taxes that, according to the candidate, will not affect the middle class or the poor.

As mentioned earlier, the idea of the candidate by the Historical Pact in case of being elected president of the Republic is to collect 14 billion pesos through taxes that will be aimed at the most “wealthy” people in the country. He was emphatic in pointing out that this will not affect the other part of the population and with these resources he will invest in education.
As mentioned by Gustavo Petro, these taxes will not fall on their productive companies, but on their unproductive assets. “Where will the tax fall? We are not going to do it for employees, we are not going to do it about those who eat and those who eat, that is, about the population, but about the four thousand greatest fortunes in Colombia, and about those four thousand richest people, not about their productive enterprises, but about their unproductive assets: dividends, transfers abroad, tax havens”.
Petro pointed out that 4 billion pesos are currently being invested for education, which guarantees the transition from high school to university, however, he says that this money is not enough to guarantee this, so 14 billion are needed.

The presidential candidate for several years has made his position clear and affirms that his intention is not to impoverish the rich, but to enrich the poor. In a trill he manifested it this way. “I do not seek to impoverish the rich but to enrich the poor. The basis of wealth is work, and the conditions for work are: knowledge, credit, land, energy, physical and technological. I propose to democratize these conditions, thus overcoming poverty and inequality.”
In Medellín, he also referred to the accusations made by Juan Diego Gómez, president of the Colombian Congress, who said that, “I had not dared to refer to his party, which accompanies the active ELN to its vice president and celebrate the appointment of this woman. The former FARC and the dissidents have spoken out in favor of their presidential campaign.”
To which Petro replied, “Francia Márquez is from a community in northern Cauca, among others, affected by the ELN. She's a victim. As a child, Francia Márquez suffered displacement like millions of Colombians. So, the president of the Senate assigns her the role of victimizer when she is a victim, and she is assigned simply because she is a black woman.”
