
At the end of the morning, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 8, the National University of Medellín ordered the evacuation of the El Volador campus due to the presence of hooded men.
“The immediate evacuation of the El Volador campus is ordered for teaching, administrative staff, students, visitors, contractors, service providers and others who are in these spaces, in order to protect their integrity,” says the statement signed by Catalina Ceballos Paris, secretary of the headquarters.
According to information from El Espectador, witnesses claimed that a group of hooded people entered the campus, threw explosive potatoes. They also handed out some leaflets explaining the reasons for the demonstration.
The Popular Revolutionary Movement group, which is identified by the acronym M.P.R., leads the demonstrations and through a statement announced that they are tired of “the violent excesses of the ruling classes.”
“Once again, comrades, we appear before you in this moving place to commemorate April 9, a turning point in the patience of a people exhausted by the violent excesses of the ruling classes, violence that they always repeat after every popular uprising or in the daily life of struggles through massacres, murders. selective and false positives”, can be read in the pamphlet of the People's Revolutionary Movement (M.P.R.).
According to information from Semana, the hooded men also explained that their presence was part of the commemoration of April 9, the 74th anniversary of the death of Jorge Eliécer Gaitan, which triggered the Bogotazo.
Some photos have circulated on social networks inside the campus, where you can see a group of people with their faces covered in black rags and a hanging flag that says, “Our soul that overflows humanity, no longer endures so much injustice. National University”.
The university also warned in the statement that, “if the evacuation instruction” is not followed, “stay on campus will be at the risk and responsibility of each person.”
For now, there have been no problems with mobility, the Medellín Mobility Secretariat, faced with the doubt of a citizen on Twitter, confirmed “at this time there is no news on the roads near the National University”.
Blockades in front of the Universidad Nacional and La Javeriana in Bogotá
It is worth remembering that around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, demonstrations of several groups of students were reported in front of Javeriana University, generating chaos and traffic congestion in the seventh race, in Bogotá.
This blockade caused Transmilenio to be partially paralyzed, as reported on the official Twitter account of the transport system. “Report of Mobilization at the height of U. Javeriana (Cra. 7 - Calle 40), blockade in the south - north direction. Dual fleet starts biking routes, resuming the route on 45th street in s-n direction”, they specified.
There were also protests in front of the National Pedagogical University and clashes took place between students and members of the Mobile Anti-Riot Squadron (Esmad) on 72nd Street, in the vicinity of the university facilities.
