“We are granting total freedom of action to the army, the Shin Bet (internal intelligence service) and all security forces to defeat terror,” Israel's Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced.
It was in a public speech in Tel Aviv, following the bloody attack by a Palestinian: “There are no limits to this war,” he added.
“Israel is the most powerful country in the region. Our enemies know it (...) The armed forces and security agencies will use all the defensive and offensive capabilities necessary to stem this wave of terrorism in the bud,” Defense Minister Benny Gantz said.
Since March 22, Israel has suffered four attacks, two of them by Israeli Arabs linked to the jihadist organization Islamic State and two by Palestinians from the city of Jenin, in the northern West Bank, a region occupied by Israel.
Jenin is considered a stronghold of Palestinian armed groups.
On Thursday night, a Palestinian killed two Israelis and wounded several when he opened fire in the heart of Tel Aviv. The aggressor was pursued and located and died hours later by Israeli forces, according to police.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken used his social media to condemn the attack: “We strongly condemn today's terrorist attack in Israel. We think of the victims of today's attack and the families of the deceased. May the memory of the deceased be a blessing.”
On March 29, a Palestinian gunman opened fire with an M-16 assault rifle in Bnei Brak, a largely Jewish Orthodox city near Tel Aviv.
He killed two Ukrainian men and two Israeli civilians. An Arab-Israeli officer died from injuries sustained in the ensuing shooting, which also killed the aggressor.
Two days earlier, terrorists opened fire and killed two policemen in the northern city of Hadera before officers shot the assailants dead, police said.
On March 22, a convicted Islamic State supporter killed four Israelis in a wave of car stabbing and ramming in the southern city of Beersheba.
