Senate President Juan Diego Gomez, in the midst of the debate on political control of the national registrar, made strong statements against the candidate for vice-presidency for the Historical Pact, Francia Márquez, linking her to the ELN guerrillas.
His intervention followed a response from Senator Wilson Arias, in which he criticized the Conservative Party and specifically Senator Laureano Acuña, who is being investigated for alleged electoral corruption.
In addition, the president of the Senate assured that he has in his possession a video from a media outlet of the ELN guerrilla in which he assures that this armed group supports the vice-presidential candidacy of Francia Márquez.
For his part, Congressman Gustavo Bolivar, of the Historical Pact, responded to the accusations of the president of the Senate and indicated that he was “cowardly, dirty and dangerous”, as Francia Márquez has been threatened.
This defense was also joined by Senator Iván Cepeda who called these allegations “infamous” and warned that they promote violence.
The remark came when the Secretary of the United Nations, António Guterres, asked the Colombian authorities and the protagonists of political life to hold presidential elections “free of violence and stigmatization.”
Guterres also noted that he is confident that Colombian citizens and their political leaders will honor the principles that inspired the Peace Agreement to participate in the political debate and invited the country to continue to “channel its differences through institutional channels,” he concluded.
The vice-presidential candidate for the Historical Pact, Francia Márquez, recently denounced a third threat against her in less than a month. The latter came from the self-described Black Eagles and was known due to a pamphlet in which it is identified as a military objective, as well as the candidate for the presidency, Gustavo Petro.
“We have been warning him and the time has come for Colombia as a whole to realize that the Chavista drug guerrilla is about to come to power at the head of alias el cacas and with whom we have said he is an ELN militant, the black hijueputa of Francia Márquez,” says the poster of the Black Eagles of the Capital Block that he shared on his networks social the environmental leader.
Marquez said at a press conference in Bello, Antioquia, that he informed the Attorney General's Office of the first two threats, but he has not received a response from the entity that indicates the initiation of an investigation. “We reported the two previous threats to the Prosecutor's Office, I still don't even get a call from someone from the Prosecutor's Office saying 'we're worried about this',” said Petro's vice-presidential formula.
Faced with the situation, Francia Márquez requested an appointment with the Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, from which he has not yet received a response. “We asked, as a result of the situation, an appointment from the Attorney General of the Nation and so far he has not given us an answer,” confirmed the leader. In turn, he demanded that President Iván Duque be guaranteed all security measures so that he can continue his political campaign.
