After almost four months away from the courts, Santiago Arias returned to training sessions with Granada on Wednesday. The Antioquian defender worked alongside his teammates and will now seek to regain a position in the starting formation of the Spanish team.

Granada reported that, along with the Colombian winger, Spaniard Angel Montoro and Frenchman Maxime Gonalons also returned to practice, who were off the courts due to injury. However, from the 'Nasari' squad it was confirmed that the three players are in the final phase of their recovery and it is still unknown whether they can be available for the next match.

Let us remember that those led by the Spanish coach, Rubén Torrecilla, come from a 2-2 draw against Rayo Vallecano for the 30th date of the league. However, on the next day they will face a tough visit to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán stadium to face Sevilla, fourth in the standings.

The coaching staff did not count on the other three footballers who are still out due to physical problems: the attacker Dani Raba, the offensive steering wheel, Rubén Rochina, and the winger Carlos Neva. Meanwhile, Granada will complete the preparation of the match against Sevilla with the training that will be completed this Thursday, also in its sports city.

Arias has not played since December 22, 2021, after suffering a major muscle injury in the match against Atlético de Madrid. On that occasion the Colombian full-back started, however, before the end of the first half, he collapsed on the pitch arguing a muscular mishap.

The first medical reports indicated that the mishap would not take him too long to recover; however, it took more than three months for his return to group work. The mission of the coaching staff is to be able to completely recover the defender 'Cafetero', in case they need it by the end of the season.

The future of Santiago Arias remains uncertain, since on June 30 the loan with Granada will expire and he will have to return to the management of Atlético de Madrid. With the team 'Colchonero' he will still have a year of contract, until mid-2023, but it seems difficult that he can secure himself in the team of Argentine Diego Simeone, considering that he did not have greater opportunities in the past.

Arias' ordeal with injuries dates back to October 2020, when he suffered a luxo-fracture of his left ankle against Venezuela for the first date of the qualifying rounds to Qatar 2022. Antioquia's recovery took six months, returning in April 2021 to training with Bayer Leverkusen.

With no options to play for Atlético, at last year's summer market, Arias went on loan to Granada, where he was fighting for a place in the starting line until his last injury came in December.

This season, the Colombian footballer has played 10 matches with the Andalusian team: eight of them in the league and two in the Copa del Rey. In addition, he was able to score a goal, on December 3, against Deportivo Alavés for the 16th day of the championship.
