The Minister of the Interior, Alfonso Chávarry, personally inspected the damage and damage caused by demonstrations outside the Congress of the Republic, which spread throughout Abancay Avenue in downtown Lima.
On his way, he approached cashiers of the Banco de la Nación who were violated in the midst of clashes between protesters and members of the Peruvian National Police (PNP). In addition, he approached the Public Prosecutor's Office, which was left with the façade torn apart.
In his statements to the press, Chávarry denied that the PNP is to blame for the deaths that have occurred since the national shutdown of carriers began more than a week ago. “There have been no deaths on our part, not in clashes with the police,” he said.
He also reported that at least four police officers were injured in the clashes, which began in the afternoon and continued into the night in different parts of downtown Lima. “They are communicating to me about the injured, they have been treated initially by the firefighters. It is vandals who are attacking the National Police,” he said in brief statements.
In addition, he rejected the violent acts of some people who had infiltrated the protests in Lima
INJURED POLICE
A police colonel who covered the wound in his hand with a piece of clothing told TV Peru that other colleagues were injured and that it was his duty to take care of their situation before he was treated by a doctor himself.
While one of the affected troops was hit by a stone in the eye, while another was injured in the hand, according to the television channel.
THE BEGINNING OF THE PROTESTS
From different parts of the capital, marches were held aimed at reaching downtown Lima to demand the resignation of President Pedro Castillo. The meeting point was Plaza San Martín at 3 in the afternoon, however, the protesters tried to reach the Congress of the Republic.
About 5,000 Protestants were on Abancay Avenue, exactly at the jirón Huallaga crossing, trying to reach Parliament. The protesters were aggressive and did not hesitate to kick and throw bottles at the police to try to break the cord that prevented their objective.
Due to the violence unleashed, congressmen Rosangella Barbarán of the Popular Force party, Patricia Chirinos from Avanza País and Norma Yarrow also from Avanza País, went outside the Parliament to lower the warm spirits of the protesters. They declared to the press that they reject Pedro Castillo's actions and hold him responsible for the abuses that occurred these days.
“We didn't agree with this meeting with Pedro Castillo. We know that everything is a farce, there is no solution or protests. Talking to Castillo is a waste of time. Nothing is going to come out, good or bad,” said Chirinos.
PEDRO CASTILLO IN
Pedro Castillo appeared before the Presiding Officers of the Congress to discuss the economic and social crisis that Peru is facing after the various demonstrations and protests over the shutdown of carriers on this eighth consecutive day.
The president arrived at the congress, 10 minutes before 3 in the afternoon to fulfill his duties and appear before the Board of Spokespersons. From there, he announced that he was repealing the total immobilization that he decreed a day earlier.
