On a farm in the southwest of the department of Antioquia, Antioquia's farmer Jorge Andrés Hernández de la Cuesta, 56, son of former senator and former partner of El Colombiano, Jorge Hernández Restrepo, was murdered.
The incident took place in the municipality of Thames, last April 5 at approximately 7:20 in the evening.
Preliminarily, it was known that armed men had arrived at his farm 'Rincón de Mis Lágrimas', located in La Occulta village in the El Camino sector, and were shot after confirming his identity, causing serious injuries to vital parts of his body.
He was immediately taken to the Antonio Roldán Betancur hospital in the municipality of La Pintada, where he eventually died.
Hernandez de la Cuesta was the father of three women. One of his daughters, who accompanied him, was unharmed.
With testimonies from the family and neighbors in the sector, investigators try to clarify the homicide of the livestock farmer.
For his part, the commander of the Antioquia Police, Colonel Daniel Mazo, traveled to the area to undermine the investigation of the crime.
Likewise, Commander Mazo, who, by order of General Jorge Luis Vargas, director of the National Police, will arrive a special group from Bogotá that will reinforce the investigative efforts to determine the causes of this crime.
While experts come to the scene, Colonel Daniel said: “We are reviewing within the inventory we have of criminals in the area who have been committing crimes. Interviews have already been taken with two workers in the area and the daughter who accompanied him.”
This Antioquian rancher was the son of civil engineer Jorge Hernández Restrepo, former manager and partner of El Colombiano and executive president of the economic newspaper La República, who died in January 2014 at the age of 74.
The vice president and chancellor, Marta Lucía Ramírez, lamented the murder of the businessman. On his Twitter account, Ramírez wrote: “Solidarity with the family of rancher Jorge H. De la Cuesta. His support in educational institutions in Antioquia and Cordoba leaves his memory for future generations.”
The Attorney General's Office and the National Army neutralized a van carrying 149 rectangular packages of cocaine in the municipality of Envigado, Antioquia. The operation was carried out thanks to intelligence information from the regional authorities.
After stopping the private vehicle in the middle of public roads, members of the Anti-Narcotics and Special Tasks Group of the CTI found the shipment wrapped and marked with the letter Z. When weighing, it was found that the total drug was 148.87 kilograms.
The car and cocaine were left at the disposal of a prosecutor of the Specialized Directorate Against Drug Trafficking, while the driver was captured and sent to jail for drug trafficking.
Authorities are already advancing investigations to identify which criminal organization would be behind the transport of the alkaloid.
In the last few hours, the Army's Fourth Brigade, in a collaborative work with the National Police, managed to destroy a clandestine laboratory where more than 400 kilos of cocaine were produced per month. The operation took place in the Santa Gertrudis village of the municipality of Concepción, eastern Antioquia.
Intelligence work showed that the drug was going to be distributed in neighboring towns, generating profits of about 2.4 billion pesos per month. In addition, the authorities reported that this illegal production center would be run by the group 'Los Mesa', which operates in several municipalities in Antioquia, such as Concepción, Santo Domingo, Algeria, La Unión and Sonson.
