On April 7, 8 and 9, the School of Arts of the Central University, the National Library of Colombia, Idartes, the Economic Culture Fund and Saraswati — Integrated Arts will present the first festival of experimental and expanded writing in Bogotá.
The Word in Space Festival is part of the process that develops a writing hotbed of the Literary Creation program of the Central University, led by the experimental writer, researcher and teacher Liliana Muñoz, and “arises as a result of showing the growing production of works in the field of expanded writing, those which present the word poetic in ways that transcend written production”, they say from the organization of the festival.
Thus, one of the objectives of the festival is to make visible these experimental and expanded writings that combine with other disciplines such as performance, sound and visual experiences, among others, thus creating new artistic sections.
“We wish, with this festival, to build bridges between the various artistic manifestations, to expand reflection on alternative forms of creation and publication, to strengthen collective and critical work from the arts and to explore possibilities of interaction with new audiences through artistic actions in non-conventional places”, holds the festival in a statement.
The program will have live performances, in room and street, talks and creation workshops. In addition, works by experienced creators, works by young creators and proposals by individuals and groups who have been experimenting with sound archives, video, stage and performance actions, installation works, music and digital creation, among other hybridisations, are integrated.
With the collective performance Al Aire Libro, a silent reading walk through the Seventh Race between 22nd and 23rd streets, heading towards the National Library of Colombia, the festival will open on Thursday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m.
The organization of the festival invites you to bring a work that the attendees are passionate about to set up a great reading community during the tour.
The Library has several presentations, conferences and talks scheduled for Thursday, including the opening talk by Vivian Abenshushan, Mexican writer and editor, an important reference for the field of expanded writing in Latin America, as she has stood out for integrating and adapting new methodologies and technologies to her work, in addition to winning awards such as the Gilberto Owen National Literature Prize, won in 2002 for her work The Insomniacs Clan.
The Rogelio Salmona auditorium of the Gabriel García Márquez Cultural Center will be the stage, on Friday, April 8, at 11:00 a.m., of the performance Lectura Coral, by the VoZes Collective. Throughout the day there will be talks, presentations and exhibitions. At 6:00pm it will close with the rap concert Mata de Aji by the artists Xilozibe and Mistíca.
