Ignacio Mier Velazco, coordinator of Morena's parliamentary group in the Chamber of Deputies, said that the bench he represents agrees on 6 of the 12 points promoted by the leaders of the Va por México coalition in energy matters, with the intention of reaching an agreement and being able to approve the Electric Reform of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
The Morenista, who seeks to approve the constitutional amendments to rethink the work of the National Electricity System (SEN), said on Tuesday, April 5, that the points set out in its counter-reform could be analyzed and contemplated in the opinion that was already distributed.
Among these guidelines is raising access to electricity to constitutional law, and that its use, supply and affordable prices are a precondition for citizens to enjoy the right to water, security, food and health.
With regard to water for agricultural use, “we agree that its treatment should not be subject to an industrial tariff and that prices should be lowered, so that we can also guarantee the right to food for all”. Likewise, the Morenista pointed out that in terms of security, Morena welcomes the fact that public lighting tariffs are considered as public service and not commercial, so that they fall in cost
He also said that they are also sympathetic to the idea that tariffs for water operating systems for domestic use are no longer applied on a commercial basis and that their price decreases, which currently violates the right of access to water. He therefore assured that these considerations will be implemented in the ruling on the Electricity Reform currently being discussed in San Lázaro.
On Monday 4th, Marko Cortés, re-elected president of the National Action Party (PAN); Alejandro Moreno, national leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI); and Jesús Zambrano, coordinator of the Democratic Revolution Party (PRD), gave a press conference in which they also presented the 12 points of his proposal in the electricity sector, the head of the tricolor announced that his party will vote against AMLO's initiative.
In contrast to what was proposed by AMLO, the letter by Va por México opens the possibility that lithium could be used by private individuals, in this regard, it specifies that this mineral will be owned by the State, but its use will follow the rules of oil. As in oil, rounds for exploration and extraction of minerals will be established to guarantee ownership and profits from this activity at all times to the State.
This means that tenders could be made such as those authorized during the six-year term of Enrique Peña Nieto (PRI), who opened the door to foreign oil companies so that they can exploit oil in deep waters.
