In Bogotá there are several works in progress, so measures have been taken to help improve mobility in the city, which is why on Avenida de las Américas, between races 74 and 62, they will implement a counterflow starting on April 6. The purpose is to release the vehicular load generated in this important road corridor.
The Road Maintenance Unit (UMV) is supporting the adaptation of counterflow. Currently, the entity is working on the enabling of the counterflow diversion at the height of race 74, in order to enable an additional lane on Avenida de las Américas heading west-east, between race 74 and race 62
The counterflow will operate from Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 9 a.m., and will start in race 74, near Portal Banderas, and will end in race 62, Outlets of the Americas sector, with a distance of approximately three kilometers.
When you reach race 62 (the end point of the counterflow), vehicles, using a human traffic light, can turn left to take 13th Street or return to Avenida de las Américas.
As a complementary measure, the Mobility Secretariat will implement a closure of the ear of the south-western side of Avenida de las Americas and Avenida Boyacá, between 6:30am and 8:30am, Monday through Friday.
In 'La Bogotá That We Are Constructing', the Mayor's Office of Bogotá, through the Ministry of Mobility and the Special Administrative Unit for Road Rehabilitation and Maintenance of Bogotá (UMV), are advancing the adaptation of the counterflow on Avenida de las Américas with the aim of decongesting this section, especially at peak times,” UMV said in your Twitter account.
And they added that: “Since when? The counterflow will be enabled from April 6 from Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and may be used by private vehicles in which three or more occupants are moved, not by heavy vehicles motorcycles and bicycles.”
They also explained that there is a team of more than 10 workers carrying out the work of a counterflow detour at the height of race 74, in order to set up an additional lane on Avenida de las Américas heading west-east between race 74 and race 62.
“This measure will benefit thousands of drivers who travel through the town of Kennedy in the Banderas and Patio Bonito sectors and who are heading towards downtown Bogotá,” said the entity.
Faced with the measure, a citizen, Andrés Motta, said that “it would be good if they planned and executed the extension of the bridges of Av Boyaca and Av 68, it is not possible for a 5-lane avenue in some sections to be reduced to 2 lanes on the bridges, a brutal bottleneck is generated at peak times”.
According to studies by the District Secretariat for Mobility (SDM), more than 7,500 vehicles are transported along this corridor in the west-east direction, more than 3,300 vehicles are moved along this corridor in the west-east direction and more than 3,300 vehicles are being moved in the west-east direction.
Figures from the entity show that in the morning rush hours the northern road of the Avenida de las Américas corridor presents good mobility conditions, since the vehicle volume that travels in the east-west direction (3,300 veh/h) is lower than the volume that travels in the west-east direction (7,500 veh/h), then, in order to optimizing the use of infrastructure The mobility sector wants to meet the needs of users traveling to the east by providing them with an additional lane.
Additionally, as a complementary measure there will be a closure of the ear on the south-western side of Avenida de las Américas from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday. With this, what they seek is to eliminate the conflicts that occur at the exit of the connector and thus benefit the vehicles that circulate directly west-east.
