The night of this Sunday, April 3rd is one of the most important for the international music industry. The National Recording Academy of Arts and Sciences, as every year, will award the best songs, albums and artists of the last year. In addition to the musicians who usually occupy the main categories, there is a list of Colombians who also aspire to win the prestigious awards. Likewise, live performances of different proposals are expected, J Balvin, for example, will be one of the artists singing at the ceremony.
Camilo Echeverry, who has achieved high recognition for his work in recent years, is nominated in the category of Best Latin Pop Album for his album 'Mis manos'. In that same compilation of recording works aspiring to the gramophone, he is joined by the Colombian Paula Arenas, who joins the competition with her album “Mis amores”.
The Colombian reggaeton also occupies important spaces in the Grammys. Karol G is nominated in the category of Best Urban Music Album with her production “KG0516″. J Balvin also earned a spot on that list with his album, “Jose”. Kali Uchis, singer of Colombian descent, also occupies an important place in this category with the compilation of songs she called 'Sin fear'.
Bomba Estéreo and Diamante Electrico are nominated in the category of Best Latin or Alternative Rock Album with their albums' Deja 'and 'Look what you made me do', respectively. In this same category, he highlights the name of Juanes with his album 'Origen'. In the category of Best Music Album for Children, Andrés and Cristina, from the duo '123, Andrés', are nominated for their album Activate.
In the middle of the delivery of the golden gramophones, as previously mentioned, on stage will be singing J Balvin. The Colombian will sing 'What else then? ' , a theme he shares with Argentina's María Becerra. They will also sing John Legend, who recently collaborated with Colombian director Sebastian Yatra, on his song 'Tacones ojos'; Billie Eilish; H.E.R. and Olivia Rodrigo.
“The fact that we are Latino is a great opportunity to show reggaeton and our sound. I was talking to Maria Becerra and I told her 'don't feel like you're a stranger here, because we're presenting them with our songs, our music. We have to be safe because this is our sound, we are introducing this to the public, we are showing them how it is done, we have to make it safe. I think she understood. It also moved me again, it was like 'we are here to show you what we do. We are not competing against Hip Hop or Pop artists, we are here representing our culture and reggaeton,” said Balvin in an interview published by the Grammys on his Instagram account.
These last two singers are among the two most nominated artists of the night. Followed by singer and songwriter Jon Batiste, who has 11 options to win the award, and Justin Bieber who has eight, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo frame their name in seven categories each, in several of them, both compete. Finneas, brother of Billie Eilish, has five nominations in his name.
In addition to this, a tribute is expected in honor of Taylor Hawkins, drummer of the rock band Foo Fighters, after his death. The group is nominated for three Grammys, however, after the musician's death, it was decided to skip any public appearance.
It is worth remembering that Hawkins passed away last Friday, March 25, in Bogotá, Colombia, before his presentation on the first day of the Estéreo Picnic Festival. The singer also reported having severe pain in his chest, so the request for immediate medical assistance was made. Despite the arrival of a team of health experts, Taylor had already passed away.
