The rainy season continues to affect several municipalities in the department of Antioquia. In the case of the district of San José de Apartadó, which is part of the municipality of Apartadó and is located in the Urabá region of Antioquia, at least twelve of its 32 villages are incommunicado due to damage to the roads.
According to Ruber García, social leader of the municipality, the growing ravine dragged the bank of a tertiary road that connected the towns of El Salto, Arenas Bajas, El Gas and Los Mandarinos. A horseshoe path also fell apart and left eight more paths incommunicado.
In addition, this emergency has also affected them: according to what García reported to Caracol Radio, at least 25 families in that district have had to leave their homes: in the case of seven families, their homes fell apart, while those of the rest suffered structural damage that made them unstable and unsafe.
Through a video released on social networks, García asks for help for people who became homeless and for those who persist in areas at high risk of slippage. He assures that they have not received help or attention from the municipal administration, so that these people are living on public charity.
Garcia also claims in the video that there was a retaining wall in San José de Apartadó, but it collapsed during this rainy season. So, they ask that another wall be built on the banks of the river so that the water does not take away more houses from the population.
According to the Administrative Department of Risk Management of Antioquia (Dagran), at least four events related to the winter emergency were presented at the end of this month.
One of them is the emergency in the rural area of Caldas municipality. It is a landslide that so far leaves behind a destroyed house, an injured person and apparently others more trapped in the rubble. 17 homes were evacuated due to the risk of slippage.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday afternoon, in the Pachely neighborhood of the municipality of Bello (Antioquia), several floods occurred, after one of the ravines in the sector overflowed due to the heavy rain.
A similar situation occurred in the municipality of Don Matías, where a sudden increase caused a heavy flood in the area. In addition, there was a landfall in several houses due to strong winds that accompanied the rain.
For about a month ago, the authorities in different areas of the country began to warn about the consequences that this first rainy season of the year would bring.
Faced with the risk of floods, landslides, collapses, the Antioquia authorities and relief agencies warned about the risks to which several municipalities in that department were exposed.
At the beginning of March, at least 68 municipalities in Antioquia were declared on alert for landslides, floods and other emergencies that could arise as a result of precipitation.
Some of the municipalities in Antioquia that are at risk this season are: Yondó, Amalfi, Vegachi, El Bagre, Caldas, Medellín, Mutata, Belmira, Ituango, Nechi, Caucasia, Tarazá, Nariño, Andes, Andes, Andes, Andes, Andes, Andes, Andes, Andes, Andes, Andes.
According to the Administrative Department for Disaster Risk Management of Antioquia, Dagran, alarms are on in the Aburrá Valley, eastern and southwestern Antioquia.
However, the director of the Dagran, Jaime Enrique Gómez, warned that it is necessary to be vigilant and work to prevent possible damage caused by the rains throughout the department.
