The day a Golden Age star fled Mexico because of threats from a president

Miguel Alemán Valdés was singled out by one of the gallant actors of the Golden Age for allegedly threatening him by trying to win over actress Linda Christian.

Linda Christian was characterized as a Mexican artist who succeeded in the United States, because due to her ancestry she always remained between the two countries. This particularity united her to Armando Silvestre, who was born in the United States, but did much of her career in Mexico.

Armando Silvestre became a symbol of masculinity and sensuality after his starring role in La Red, a film by El Indio Fernández that was widely acclaimed internationally.

As Silvestre confessed in different interviews, since he played his first stellar roles in Mexico, several actresses sought to start some love affair with him, just as he also successfully courted many of his companions.

Some of the love conquests that the actor openly boasted were Meche Barba and Gloria Marín, with whom he only had to face other breakups but when he tried to maintain a relationship with Linda Christian he changed his perspective on their romances.

The actor thought that with Linda he could have a fleeting affair as with his other companions, without other people noticing it and not even transcending his feelings, but that was not the case because many other men pretended to histrionics.

Armando assured that Christian would have had a relationship with Miguel Alemán Valdes when he was president of Mexico, but he would have ignored this and did his best to conquer the Bond girl. However, it was not long before he was forced to give up his goal and even be forced to flee the country for a while and hide abroad.

As the actor recalled, one day a security group came to his house and warned him that he had to completely forget the histrionist or deal with the consequences that his conquest could entail. He, realizing that it was a situation where he was putting his integrity at risk, quickly accepted.

Because of the fear that this caused Silvestre, he immediately left his home and hid so that, if they looked for him again, they would not find him easily. I knew that the best was to leave the country and find refuge in the best option I had, that is, the United States.

“Being from Tijuana, where was I going to go? Wherever it was close. Nothing else to avoid being there, that they could grab me so easily,” said the protagonist of Lola Casanova.

Armando had no problem with spending time in the United States as he was also sowing successes in that country, as were the films The Children of Sanchez and The Scalphunters. Shortly after, after the fright, she returned to Mexico to continue her career and continue to seek female companionship within the artistic environment.

It was not the only time he would have had a relationship with a woman with a partner, because when he had an affair with Gloria Marín, the actress was already engaged with Jorge Negrete, who on one occasion was about to catch them together in their house.
