In the last few hours, the EPM Group confirmed that it renewed with the Mapfre insurance company the insurance coverage for the civil works of the Ituango Hydroelectric Project for 2022 with a policy that insures the works of the dam, the landfill, the substation and the camps.
“We have just renewed the insurance for completed works of the Ituango Hydroelectric Project for an insured amount of 200 million dollars. It was done with Mapfre and a group of international insurers”, explained Andrés Felipe Uribe Mesa, vice president of EPM Risks
He added that once the first generation unit enters commercial operation, both the electromechanical equipment and the civil works necessary for it, can be included in this policy.
As Uribe Mesa said, thanks to the continuity of coverage, the insured limit of the policy was increased from 100 million dollars to 200 million dollars.
After a process that included, among other activities, a visit to the reinsurance market to present first-hand the progress made in the recovery and implementation of the project.
On the other hand, EPM also renewed, with the insurance company Seguros Generales Suramericana S.A, the coverage of non-contractual civil liability insurance for the Ituango project, maintaining the limit of $5 million and the same technical conditions.
EPM, thus, announces that it is continuing with the progress and development of the Ituango hydroelectric project, which will contribute 17% of the country's energy production.
On March 10, EPM officially opened the new public tender to define the contractor who will be responsible for the “final civil works” of the Hidroituango hydroelectric project. The application will be open until March 25.
EPM's projection is that, in order to meet the deadlines, the selected company must be ready in August, the date on which the extension of the current contractor, the CCC consortium, will expire. In this way, there will be a period of three months to make the splice with the incoming company.
As announced by EPM for the contracting process, national and international companies that are interested in participating must meet the requirements “for the request for bids, the Special Conditions document”, which can be found on the company's website. It should also be noted that the right to participate costs 4 billion pesos.
Regarding the opening of the public tender, EPM's manager, Jorge Carrillo, said that “the tender will be open to any contractor with financial, technical and legal capacity. The important thing is to define the conditions and that the best possible executor arrives.”
EPM was recognized with the Ideas in Action award, as the most innovative water and sanitation company in the region, for the implementation of actions that allow access to water and sanitation for communities.
As explained by the company, the award-winning 'Closure of Gap' project seeks to improve the quality of life and the environment through the construction of unconventional sewers in hard-to-reach areas or settlements in municipalities in the Aburrá Valley.
With this award, announced by the IDB during the celebration of Water Day, EPM received a one-week mentoring workshop at the Basic Sanitation Company of the State of Sao Paulo -SABESP-, in Brazil, considered one of the largest companies in the world in terms of water and sanitation issues.
