Great unrest within the Congress of the Republic arose after the Commission for Investigation of the 2021 General Elections Process, chaired by the spokesperson for Popular Renewal, Jorge Montoya, extended the deadline for presenting the results of their work by 20 more days.
In this regard, the ruling parliamentarian , Guido Bellido, expressed his anger through his social networks, considering that they invented “electoral fraud” to generate” more jobs for his friends”, while urging this working group to present its “onerous research” as soon as possible .
“They invented 'electoral fraud' to form a commission of inquiry, generating more jobs for friends. Today, four months later, we are awaiting the report of such an arduous and, above all, such onerous investigation. Now be accountable, you scoundrels,” he said on his Twitter account.
The Peruvian Libre congressman was not the only one to show his discontent about the Investigation Commission of the 2021 General Elections Process. For her part, Juntos for Peru legislator Sigrid Bazán recalled that this investigation has already cost the country more than S/150,000 in just four months of administration.
“The deadline for the Commission investigating fraud invented by the right wing has just expired. It has been more than 4 months, about S/150,000 spent, but they have not yet released their results; what is more, today they have just approved a request for an extension of the deadline by 20 more days,” the legislator wrote through her social networks.
It should be noted that the Commission of Inquiry had to present its final report on Friday, March 25.
“THERE WAS NO FRAUD”
A few days ago, the president of the National Elections Jury, Jorge Luis Salas Arenas, told the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) that the 2021 General Elections were fair and transparent.
Salas, during his participation in the virtual ordinary session of that council, presented the final report of the OAS Electoral Observation Mission sent to Peru for the 2021 General Elections and reiterated that there was no fraud due to falsification of signatures or impersonation of table members, as stated by Fuerza Popular, a party led by Keiko Fujimori.
He added that the JNE reviewed 271 appeals for annulments that were filed in the second round of the last elections, of which 19 were referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office for investigation.
FINAL REPORT
The OAS report presented by the Head of Mission, former Paraguayan Foreign Minister, Rubén Ramírez Lezcano, highlighted the professional work of Peruvian electoral authorities in organizing a process of great complexity, amid the pandemic and political polarization.
It also condemned the disinformation campaigns on social networks and the attacks on the arbitrator of the electoral process, which sought to cast doubt and discredit the work of the electoral bodies and, even, of the observation missions themselves.
The head of the OAS EOM also emphasized that all electoral bodies provided support and ease of access to information, so that foreign observers could verify the work of bureau members, representatives and supervisors, before, during and after the elections, as well as post-election work electoral.
The virtual session was also attended by the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro; ambassadors and various representatives of the countries of the Americas; the Permanent Representative of Peru to the OAS, Ambassador Harold Forsyth Mejia; as well as the head of the National Office for Electoral Processes (ONPE), Piero Corvetto Salinas.
