The AFIP once again postponed tax maturities for those affected by the Paraná River downspout in seven provinces

The Federal Agency for Public Revenue (AFIP) once again postponed tax maturities for residents and companies in seven provinces affected by the Paraná River downspout.

Through General Resolution 5171/2022, published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette, the collecting body amended Resolution 5074 of September 2021 and established that the filing of affidavits and/or payment of obligations with general maturities fixed between July 27, 2021 and April 30, 2022 inclusive, will be considered fulfilled on time provided that they are effective until the dates that, according to apply, are indicated below:

-For obligations due from July 27 to August 31, the due date will be February 24, 2022:

-For obligations due from September 1 to 30, 2021, the maturity will be March 24, 2022;

-For obligations due from October 1 to October 31, 2021, the maturity will be April 25, 2022;

-For obligations due from November 1 to 30, 2021, the maturity will be on May 24, 2022;

-For obligations due from December 1 to December 31, 2021, the maturity will be on June 24, 2022;

-For obligations due from January 1 to January 31, 2022, the maturity will be July 25, 2022.

-For obligations due from February 1 to 28, 2022, the maturity will be August 24, 2022;

-For obligations due from March 1 to March 31, 2022, the maturity will be on September 26, 2022;

-For obligations due from April 1 to 30, 2022, the maturity will be October 24, 2022.

The measures reach taxpayers from localities in the Paraná river basin region located in the provinces of Formosa, Chaco, Corrientes, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, Misiones and Buenos Aires, on the banks of the Paraná, Paraguay and Iguazú rivers.

In July last year, the Government declared a “State of Water Emergency” for 180 calendar days in those jurisdictions. Afterwards, the AFIP ordered relief measures for residents and companies that were extended today in the Official Gazette, after a few days ago the aforementioned emergency was extended for three months.

In this way, the body in charge of Mercedes Marcó del Pont extended the deadlines for the payment of advances on income taxes, personal property and VAT, as well as for obligations corresponding to social security contributions, the pension system for self-employed workers and mono-taxpayers.

Those who have not yet applied for the benefits, will be able to do so until April 18, 2022, it was clarified in the General Resolution formalized this Wednesday.

The Paraná River continues its historic decline, considered in our country the most important in the last 78 years, due to the precipitation deficit that also affects the basins of the Paraguay and Iguazu rivers. “This extraordinary drop causes, among the main negative effects, effects on drinking water supply, navigation and port operations, hydroelectric power generation, fuel supply and economic activities linked to the exploitation of the basin formed by the Paraná rivers, Paraguay and Iguazu,” the Government warned when it extended the emergency in the area.

Although the Paraná River grew during February in several ports of Entre Ríos, the downspout is expected to continue until mid-autumn. “There is no definite trend towards normalization, showing the persistence of water deficit and an unfavorable trend that will persist during the first half of autumn,” the National Water Institute (INA) warned weeks ago.
