MIAMI (AP) — Former collaborator of President Donald Trump, Paul Manafort, tried to travel to Dubai from Miami International Airport but was forced to get off the plane because his passport was revoked, officials said Wednesday.
Miami-Dade police detective Alvaro Zabaleta confirmed that Manafort was forced off the Emirates Airline plane on Sunday night, but referred questions to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
This agency did not respond to a request for statements on Wednesday, nor did a lawyer from Manafort.
Manafort, 72, led Trump's 2016 campaign for several months, but was fired to revelations about his business in Ukraine.
Accused of financial crimes as part of prosecutor Robert Mueller's investigation into links between the Trump campaign and Russia, Manafort was convicted by a jury in 2018 and sentenced to seven years in prison. He was released due to his age and health problems, and Trump pardoned him in December 2020.
The website Knewz.com was the first to report on Sunday's incident at the airport.
