The counting of votes in the past elections to the Congress of the Republic has generated controversy over several inconsistencies and irregularities in the process. The scandal became visible after people on social networks will denounce multiple changes and modifications to the E-14, in addition to poorly added votes, crossovers, uncounted tables, among other things.
All political tendencies and parties in the country were outraged on networks and asked that both the Registry Office and the National Electoral Council (CNE) explain what happened and propose solutions. Historic Pact initially asked for a recount and later pointed out that no, as this would break the electoral process. Then Centro Democrático came out and asked for a recount, but no one agreed, except the registrar Alexander Vega, who spoke and indicated that he would make a request for the counting of votes to be carried out again.
Finally, yesterday a meeting was held between the different supervisory bodies and political parties where, almost by unanimity and consensus, it was determined that such a counting process would not take place and that processes would be opened so that the respective citizens and movements could manage their complaints and complaints. However, the party led by former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez did not agree with the decision and indicated that it will continue to insist before the CNE that a recount be carried out, as they will not accept the results that have been given, where the Historical Pact is clearly the winner.
“Yes sir, what we said here in public, we have it in a document that is currently being taken to the National Electoral Council. We made three requests, of course the total recount because we don't see how one can respond to so many people who are evidencing and we have seen it. There are amendments, there are erasures,” said the director of the Democratic Center, Nubia Stella Martínez, after the meeting of the National Commission on Electoral Guarantees where even Vega withdrew from the count.
Martinez's statements were reaffirmed by Senator Paloma Valencia, who said that we will insist on the need for a total recount because the denunciations and irregularities continue to create mistrust of the political movement and its militants.
“We will insist on the need for a total recount, because 1, 3, 5 or 50 seats are not at stake here, what is at stake here is the confidence of Colombians in the electoral system. How are they going to tell us to continue with the scrutiny, when the registrar himself acknowledges, as he did today, (...) that there was criminal action by electoral juries, who crossed out the E-14 forms...”, the senator pointed out.
Registry will not ask for recount of votes after guarantee desk
After listening to the interventions of all the participants in the guarantee table, Alexander Vega said: “Magistrates, President in Charge: For the peace of mind of the political forces, I will not submit the application. Obviously, there is also the right of political organizations that want to present it, but on the part of the Registry Office we are not going to present it.”
This brief intervention was received with applause at the guarantee table, with the presence of the National Electoral Council (CNE), the Ministry of the Interior and political parties.
The CNE assured in the same space that there is no room for fraud in the Colombian system, because there are many filters that strengthen the process. In addition, it was emphasized that votes are in chain of custody and that the pre-count has only an informative purpose and has no legal validity.
