TISHOMINGO, Oklahoma, USA (AP) Six teenage students traveling in a small four-seat car were killed when they hit a truck, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Wednesday.
Only the 16-year-old driver and front passenger were wearing their seat belts when the 2015 Chevrolet Spark hit the truck in Tishomingo, a rural town of 3,000 people located 160 kilometers (100 miles) southeast of Oklahoma City, the patrol said.
In addition to the driver, three 15-year-old passengers and two 17-year-old passengers died. Their identities were not disclosed because they were minors.
The superintendent of public schools in Tishomingo, Bobby Waitman, deplored in a Facebook message the “great loss” suffered by the local high school.
“Our hearts are broken and we mourn with our students and staff,” Waitman said.
