A man staged this weekend an unusual road incident in the city of Necochea when he lost control of his car and crashed. The Buenos Aires Police found that it had 11 times the maximum allowed blood alcohol, much higher than the last record recorded in the country.
The incident occurred last Friday at dawn, when a 40-year-old former metallurgist from Pilar's party was driving through the center of the spa town with his silver-gray Nissan Tida car, of which he lost control until he hit a column of street lighting at the crossroads of 59th Avenue and 38th Street.
After the accident, traffic personnel from the municipality drove to the scene and, when they performed the breathalyzer test on the driver, they came across an unusual number. The man, a former employee of a company dedicated to aluminum extrusion, had, according to that analysis, 5.5 grams of alcohol in his blood.
The traffic inspectors proceeded to carry out an offense against the man, who was taken to the Emilio Ferreyra Municipal Hospital to be treated after the impact, and officers of the local police station hijacked the vehicle, which accumulated more than 100,000 pesos in fines in the province of Buenos Aires alone and Federal Capital.

Nationally, the previous record for blood alcohol levels had been recorded in January 2020 in the province of Santa Cruz, when the breathalyzer test performed on a driver scored 3.23 grams.
According to experts in the field, from 0.60 to 0.99 grams - just beyond the limit currently allowed by law - shows disinhibition and extroversion and there are profound difficulties in peripheral vision. From 1.00 to 1.99 grams there are already emotional swings, reflexes begin to fail, there is difficulty in speech, temporary erectile dysfunction, the possibility of temporary intoxication and amnesia.
From 2.00 grams, severe motor impairment, loss of consciousness and amnesia are already evident. From 3.00 onwards, however, there is already severe depression of the central nervous system, loss of consciousness, high risk of poisoning and the possibility of death.
