AMSTERDAM (AP) — Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal tested positive for COVID-19 and is in isolation, altering the national team's preparation for friendly matches against Denmark and Germany.
The Dutch Football Federation reported in a statement that Van Gaal, 70, tested positive on Tuesday.
His assistants Danny Blind, Henk Fraser and Frans Hoek will replace Van Gaal. The Dutch will face Denmark and Germany on Saturday on Tuesday. Both duels will be played at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam.
On Monday, Van Gaal appeared at a press conference where he strongly criticized the World Cup being held in Qatar.
The three-time World Cup finalist, the Netherlands qualified for the tournament after missing the last edition in Russia. Previously, Van Gaal led the team to the semifinals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
